The Egg of Time: Modder Award

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion is now over three years old, and in the gaming circles those years have not passed without leaving their mark on the game: the number of players is diminishing, the forums are empty, and most of the mods (among those that have even seen the light of day) are falling into obscurity.

But is this really so? Now that Oblivion's hype has subsided, only the seriously interested people are sticking with it, and these make up the true community. And after three years! Other games have lifespans of only one year, dusty and forgotten somewhere in the cemetery of the game's monotony.

That this is certainly not the case with Oblivion is due in part to the beauty of the game itself, but even more due to the modifications, which -- being made by thousands of volunteer modders all over the world -- are nearly unprecedented in their abundance in this area. And every day sees more new players newly discovering Oblivion for themselves and beginning to play.

We wish to honour this uniqueness. In the past, our site has had various mod awards, awarded to the best and most successful mods. Now, it's time for something new:

The Egg of Time: Modder Award, and the Egg of Time: Young Modder Award

Those who are responsible for this free, quasi-infinite gameplay will be honoured with the Modder Award, for it is to them that we ultimately owe this added value of Oblivion. Specifically, we wish to point out that these Modder Awards are above all an assessment similar to prestigious literary awards. It should not be used to produce a ranking of modders, against which we would judge their relative quality. Thus, we do not intend to incite any discord or discredit within the modding community. True artists have no competition anyway.

Alongside the main Modder Awards, we also issue the second category: the Young Modder Award. This prize is to be awarded to new, "young" modders ("young" in the sense of being relatively new to the modding world), whose first mods are hopeful and wonderful occasions that bring us further gaming fun.

So, do you know a modder who deserves to be nominated in either category, and maybe even get a prize? Do you know someone who thinks someone else worthy? What are you waiting for? Go nominate them! In honour of those to whom we owe the true game of Oblivion: the modders!

And you can do it as you prefer in German or English ...
