Saren001
Hi, I want to add "guards" from another mod into another mod to add more atmosphere to it. And these "guards" are undead creatures. So how do I do this?
David Brasher
Big complex question. I doubt I can answer it completely in one try. You will need to merge parts of two mods. There is software available for merging mods, but it sounds like you only want to merge a small part of them, so I expect it would work best if you did it manually. You will need to open both mods on the CS at the same time. You will want to have made a backup of the one you make the active file in case something goes wrong. Make the mod you are adding guards to the active file. Rename the guards with new form IDs so that they will appear in the new mod. You will also need to rename any associated objects, scripts, dialog infos, sounds, etc. Don't touch and modify anything that you don't want to transfer to your new mod. It is easy to make your mod "dirty" at this point with lots of unused, deadcode type of memory-wasters. As soon as possible, save your mod and load it in the CS again without also having the old mod loaded. You can then read all the error messages the CS will generate and look to see if everything you meant to transfer is indeed there. You may have to go back and open both mods again to get something you missed. Dialog topics and infos do not merge well. There are documented bugs in the CS. You may lose some of them and have to make them again from scratch. They will be present, they will just be entirely non-functional which is quite tricky. If your mod is for personal use, I expect all your meshes and textures will be okay, since they are already on your computer. If you plan to upload the mod, you will need to pay special attention to what happened to your meshes and textures. You may need to modify some object information saying which .nif to use in the CS, some texture paths in NIfSkope, or some file paths in Windows Explorer. Things go wrong when you merge mods. (Things always go wrong no matter what you are doing.) Perform lots of play-testing to make sure everything you meant to transfer to the new mod arrived in good shape and that everything works right. This is probably as clear as mud. If you get stuck, ask the forum more questions or send me a personal message.
Saren001
Clear as mud indeed. I will try this and report back to see what happens Alright so i tried what you said and it baffled me. I can't do it. Mainly because i have no modding experiance what so ever. I guess i will just live without guards. The mod I was trying to place guards in was the Azure palace mod. It's very beautiful palace, but it has no NPCs, so i was going to add guards around the outside. The guards wuld be skeleton knights from this one mod.
