Need some ENB advice (and perhaps mods) with my desktop

If someone could tell me if and what ENB i could run with these specs and also recommend any load order fixes or perhaps any other graphics/other mods that will be compatible with this load order and/or pc setup, i'd really appreciate it since i'm trying to make my skyrim run great but also reduce the odd crashes i've been getting from a few mods and sustain my fps (30-50fps atm).

My specs are:-

Processor: AMD FX-4100 Quad-Core Processor 4.00 GHz

Installed Memory (RAM): 16.0 GB

System Type: 64-bit Operating System (Windows 7 Ultimate)

Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series (Sapphire 7870) 2GB Video Memory

DirectX runtime version: 11.0

Hard drive: 1TB (614.3 GB Free)

Note: I'll be buying a 7990 later this month, so what enb could i get then and how good will my graphics be?

No ENB with your current hardware unless you want to play a slideshow, overclocking would make it run better but I don't even know what kind of PSU or motherboard you have, so I can't recommend it without knowing what you have. Your specs are a mess by the way, a lot of RAM and the rest is weak, looks like it was built by a 3 year old which is why I assume it's a pre-built configuration. Never buy pre-built, build it yourself.

 

Getting a 7990 is also worthless, aside from multi-GPU scaling issues Skyrim is bound to run into and making your PC look even more misconfigured than it already is, you'd be better off with an R9 290 and a Haswell i5, especially since getting a card like 290 with your current CPU would be like strapping a jet engine onto a bunker - it wouldn't budge.

Yeah, it was prebuilt so i can see why you'd say that.

It's a Gigabyte 78LMT-USB3 Ultra-Durable Motherboard, and PSU is an ACE A-650BR. Would you say a better processor? I have alot of money so i'd love to make improvements too.

If you're looking to run a metric crap ton of mods, you'll also need hardware to back them up. So far you have a bad CPU which performs worse than the CPU this thing was supposed to replace, a card that would crumble if you throw HD textures at it, and a PSU I wouldn't even take if it was given to me for free. I also assume the hard drive is slow storage junk, seeing as how the rest of the build looks, RAM may be 16GB but I don't know it's frequency so I'll assume 1333 or 1600. Case is a complete unknown though, likely some cheap junk or a cheap CoolerMaster, so I don't know how much air it can move.

 

Anyway, I wouldn't dare overclock with that PSU, so that will not be a suggestion at all. With that in mind, how much money are you willing to spend on this thing?

Well, you were talking bull. I'm running a few more retexture mods and realvision at full and it's only dipped to 30fps. It's had no crashes and runs fine in crowded areas and interiors. Thanks for wasting my time.

You do understand that framerates over 60FPS and dips under 30FPS destabilize the Gamebryo engine, causing havok errors, script delays, savegame corruption, etc, correct? You also do understand that having hardware stressed that much in itself can actually make the game unstable, right?

 

But no, after five years of experience playing around with Gamebryo I must be talking bull. Ah well, your game, your hardware - your problem. :wink:

Even a dip to 30 fps can cause problems. I wouldn't trust the Creation/Gamebryo lower than 35 fps. Aiming for exactly 30 will cause problems when it inevitably fluctuates 1-3 fps either way with a cap, or 10-20 fps either way without a cap.

I've never heard of savegame corruption in the newer iterations of the Gamebryo Engine, but havok errors, script delays, and microstutter are all well known side effects of running the Creation/Gamebryo at low framerates.

 

His video card is fine for HD textures, but the Creation/Gamebryo engine isn't. HD textures will cause stutter inevitably, eventually. Even the official HD DLC is pushing the engine to the edge, to such a degree that a 32-bit OS can't keep it stable. Which I suppose is the main reason it's free DLC and not bundled with the core game.

 

Additionally, if his PSU works now, I suppose it's fine, but it would certainly need to be replaced before any upgrades. I couldn't find any "real" reviews, but it has 2 stars on Amazon, with multiple comments alleging that ACE PSUs are known to explode under stress. http://www.amazon.co.uk/ACE-650W-PSU-12cm-Red/dp/B00647P82S#productDetails

 

The FX-4100 isn't a completely terrible CPU, but I've no doubt it's bottlenecking your 7870 in some games already, and upgrading your video card would most likely not yield significant performance returns.

 

I'd recommend replacing the PSU with something that's actually good, preferably gold rated and from Corsair, Seasonic, XFX, etc...

Then wait to upgrade anything else until the Haswell refresh and Z97 boards launch in about a month.
