gracietoo
Hello folks. Total noob here. I have been trying out mods for Oblivion and of course there are some that, having tried them, I have decided not to use. I untick them in the list( check to USA) and that disables them of course, but really I would like to remove the unwanted files from the data folder altogether. Is this possible? Can I at least remove the pertinent File Archive and .esp?
scrivener07
"Can I at least remove the pertinent File Archive and .esp?" yes. when removing other files from your data folder be careful cause sometimes mods replace files instead add. Check each mods readme to see what it adds. And use .omods through OBMM if you can. there like self installing mods that can clean themselves out to. too tired hopefully this will get this thread rolling for you. btw BACK-UP your SAVES always make copies. and just start deleting stuff, bad advice maybe idk but thats how you learn. good luck

dezdimona
get and install OBMM then you can add and remove mods without having to access the game files
Vagrant0
get and install OBMM then you can add and remove mods without having to access the game filesAlthough that is good practice, it doesn't help much after things have been installed normally. One should also be mindful of what mods they have actually used within their current saves. Removing mods or mesh replacements that were present when a save was made can often cause bugs within that game, or just simply crash. Generally, it is a good idea to have yourself setup with a few good, clean, saves for the main group of mods you intend to be using (overhauls, companions, and other mods you know are of decent quality and probably to your liking). Then play around a bit with this setup to confirm that it is what you want to be playing with before adding any other mods. When you do add mods, add them, and try to test them to their fullest before making any real progress with that character; this way, you can remove and use an earlier save without much lost. Most mod users tend to clear their data folder regularly (make backups). Since you have those saves created with your list of necessary mods, you can simply just reinstall these mods and use those saves.

I have played Ob for some time now, but in an earlier pre-format install I was always getting ctds, which made me wary of any mods. Now it runs just fine, except the shutdown occasionally brings up a message, and I figured I would find out what mods work ok and are what I want, and then I can start the game again, from scratch, if needs be, without having to experiment along the way. So far it is all going pretty well and I am really enjoying trying out the mods. Thank you for your wisdom :)
