No Textures in Nifskope?

Recommended Posts

Ok ive made a sword to be specific the tensa zangetsu from bleach,s hilt, ok then ive textured it in blender it shows up as textured ive made sure to change the texture to UV in the materials section and loaded the image in the texture section, the texture shows up perfectly fine then i export it as a .nif then load it into nifskope and its just white, i can change the texture to daedric and preset textures for the oblivion BSA but it just wont load mine any suggestions (all i did to make the .DDS was go into photoshop make my texture then save as a .DDS)

Help would be great since im still new at this ^^

it will texture just not with my texture ive provided 3 pictures showing it textured material changed to uv, in nifskope with my texture and its blank, and it in nifskope after i changed it to an oblivion texture

on a side note i only saved it as a DDS when i looked in the textures they had dagger dagger.n and dagger.g could that be why?

When you saved your .dds file, what compression did you use? When you save it will give you options such as DXT1, DXT3, etc. From what I understand, you want to use DXT3 in most cases.

As for those other files, filename_n is the normal map, which is needed in order for the texture to appear in game. You use a special filter that you can download free online to make it. Your item is completely invisible in the game without the normal map. filename_g is the glow map, which isn't required unless you're trying to make parts of your texture glow in dark areas.

I think i get what you mean im just saving it as a DDS but i need a _n.dds thats why when i retexture it to a preset from the vanilla version of oblivion it works since they have both dds and _n.dds ok ill have a look see how i make a normal map and yeah when i exported it in photoshop i exported it as a DXT1 no alpha

Thanks i figured it our and ive got the sword fully textured and working In-game yay for anyone having the same problem heres a quick guide on how to fix the problem i had

1 - Download GIMP

2- Download the normal map and dds plugins and place em in the GIMP plugin folder

3 - Get your custom texture thats saved as a dds and load it into GIMP

4 - when in gimp go to layers - transparency - Add alpha channel (if you can remove alpha channel then theres no need to add one)

5 - Layers - Tansparency - color to alpha - then set it as black and accept the change your image should be transparent

6 - filters - map - normal map - then make sure its set to 4 sample then accept

7 - save as - make sure the name is the same as your original dds file with a _n.dss extension to the name then save - then under compression set it as BC3/DXT5 and tick generate mipmaps

8 - it should work make sure the .dds and _n.dds files are in the same folder then use nifkope and the texture should appear if you direct the textures to your designated folder and it will texture ^^

Kudos to tallion XD

oh and on a side note if anyone knows how to make the blade glossy so it shines then it'd be a great help ingame its just a dark black blade and a little shine would be great ive tried uping the glossiness in nifskope to no avail

Check out this guide: http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index...mal_Maps_Basics. It should give you a good start on understanding normal maps. Even though the guide is for creating them with Photoshop, there's still a lot of advice you can use about normal maps in general. Once you've read that, then read http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index...ity_Normal_Maps for a guide on creating them with GIMP.
