jackpack
the reason everyone is so clean is because when they bath, the radiation burns all the dirt away. radiation springs, because your worth it haha :P
roquefort
The guys are mostly clean-shaven as well, which does really need soap & hot water ;)
Dynastia
If you ever worked a day in your life, you have probably come home dirtier than some of these raiders and wanderers. But apart from slaves and people with specialised knowledge (Walter, Moira, etc.), not many people in the Fallout universe would work a day in their lives ; at least, not in the way our society is used to working. Survivalism is all about counting calories, and trying to do as little as possible to avoid needlessly wasting your energy reserves. Hunter-Gatherers (which is basically what scavengers are) just sit around all day long, because they can't afford to waste any energy. People like Walter, whose expertise is needed, would probably work long hours but be awarded a lot more food than any of the regular Megaton folks, but an average Megaton settler would probably spend their days doing very very little, and only venturing out to scav between long periods of doing absolutely nothing. Honestly, I can't imagine there is regular work and paychecks for all those Megaton settlers ; aside from the Stahls, Simms, Cromwell, Stockholm, Moriarty, Nova, Gob, Walter, Moira and Doc Church ; and out of those, only Moira, Walter, Nova and whoever does the cooking at the Brass Lantern are going to get their hands dirty. Maybe a few might be doing repairs to the outer wall and buildings, and one of them watches the Brahmin outside Doc Church's, but the rest? It's not like they've got a coal mine or factory supporting the town.
Agnot2006
Why are only the "Raiders" and "Wastelanders" so dirty. I'm kind of stickler for immersion and realism in games, especially RPG's. When I'm sifting through the thousands of mod's out there, I'm always searching for something that will bring me closer to the feel of the "original Fallout", while still keeping it realistic, to a point. What I'm suggesting is a mod that convert's human NPC's to (you guessed it) look like "Raiders" or "Wastelanders" or what have you. I mean everyone except maybe the Vault Dwellers. For all I know, this mod may already exist, for if it does and you are reading this, please leave a link, that would be appreciated. Thank You I think the game is about right. Outside the cities people are dirty, Wastelander’s Raiders etc. Inside the cities there would be pressure to keep clean, dirty people could carry diseases. In the confined environments people would at least want to look clean and healthy or maybe get forced out. In Megaton the non residents are complaining they can’t get water, that they mustn’t be seen talking to strangers etc so there is definitely some pressure to conform to an expected standard. BadPenney
Too clean for the Wasteland, but still satisfied to live in houses littered with filthy 200 year old newspapers. They couldn't possibly bathe in all that radioactive water, right? Bottle and drink the Dirty Water maybe, but not bathe. As long as the people look realistically dirty then we can ignore all of the other elements of a story that is absolute fantastical nonsense. The supermutants are awfully clean too. I can't really believe that supermutants would really take time to bathe. They should look a lot grimier to be acceptable as genetically altered radiation immune members of a supermutant horde bent on total world domination. A glaring error like that makes the whole story unbelievable.
roquefort
"The supermutants are awfully clean too" We don't know if that greeny-yellow colour is their natural skintone. Maybe they're just mouldy. Where I live it rains a lot, and my car would look like that if I never cleaned it :D
Krutz
Anyways, why argue about it, the point is, is there a way to make most if not all npc's look like people from The Pit/Raiders/Wanderers. I really think it would bring a cool element to Fallout. Please try to keep your comments about the topic at hand.
BadPenney
... the point is, is there a way to make most if not all npc's look like people from The Pit/Raiders/Wanderers.Well you could start the GECK, click on the Character pull down menu, select Race, and edit the Body Data of every non-raider race so that they display raider skin textures. That would conflict with every body replacer mod available and would more or less be your own body texture replacer. Many of the body replacer mods have separate textures for raiders too, so if you want to modify a nude body mod to make everyone look dirty then you could rewrite the non-raider races to show the custom raider texture.
