Multiple Oblivion installs?

I want to try some of the major overhaul mods, but I don't want to disrupt my current game/characters.

I want two instances of Oblivion on my rig...

Can I just move/rename my current folder and do a clean install? Or will that break things?

How do things like Wyre Bash, and OBSE react to being uprooted?

Is there any way to get it to keep savegames in the Oblivion folder instead of having them in the Windows user profile spaces?

you cannot have two seperate oblivion games on one PC, yo can however copy your game data file and then install say ooo or mmm and then still have a folder free of those mods.

since bomm and obse are not in the game data folder this will not affect them in any way.I've done this before with no problems.

Oblivion places several entries into the Windows registry when it is installed. Windows then uses those entries to find the various parts of the game when you play it. Just copying the entire folder to another location will not tell those registry entries where the new folder is. And there is no simple way to make new registry entries for the new folder as they would have to have the exact same name - leading to a registry corruption.

However, you can have different data folders. But you will have to swap them in and out as needed. I ran into the same problem when I wanted a clean Oblivion with no mods to develop a new mod, and a fully modded game for playing.

Here is a link to my dual Oblivion solution.
