Cronafinity
Do not have items placed at a location that requires stealing. Put it in a location. Middle of town would be even better. it makes me so mad, i get a cool weapon and it gone because a quest means of killing someone and a guard takes it away. i dont feel like going and retrieving them. no need. i dont know if people agree with me, but if you do the AWESOME. ;) :P

The item could have been placed in that location for many reasons, in particular an NPC who sells objects in that location, or to force the player to do something before the item can be taken. The mod could have also been made by someone who is newer, and doesn't see this problem on their end for whatever reason. Most who add items to a random interior should know how to set ownership to the player on the placed object so that stuff like this doesn't happen. Putting items in town is not always a good solution since people who have Open Cities type mods active will not be able to pick up that item. The item placed in a town can also end up being kicked around or picked up by NPCs. Generally, it's a better idea to use a custom container which is added to one of the exterior locations that aren't too hard to find (like anywhere outside the IC, the bridge to the IC, or any of the small towns and inns nearby). Regardless, solving something like this is usually rather easy. In game, open console, select the object, and type in "setownership" without the quotes. In the CS, just load the mod as active, go to the cell the item was placed, select the reference, edit the reference, open the ownership tab, and select the player from the list. Or, just steal it when nobody is watching, sell it to a fence NPC, and buy it back.
