coreoveride Posted November 21, 2009 Share Posted November 21, 2009 Introductions:Hi, I'm Coreoveride, I am new to the most recent generation of modding, however I do have basic knowledge of most modding principles and some practical knowledge. This is my most ambitious project yet and one I wish to use as my first upload to the community. The Project: Simply put I would like to be able to have the PC's arm blown off in battle, be able to collect it in a set time limit, preservation of limb for set time using "at hand" clutter, and finally the reattachment (including a "surgical" perk to allow battlefield reattachment). Of course such things as battlefield reattachment would have to be based so that you have a chance of reattaching the limb improperly and suffering permanent effects from it, preservation and storage would have to be scripted and based on "real" possibilities of preservation (i.e. needing a leather belt to stop bleeding, keeping limb cool to prevent necrosis and sterile to prevent infection using water and custom made clutter additives such as salt, vinegar, antiseptics, and penicillin injections and tablets. not to mention scripting alcohol for antiseptic use as well. The Point of this Post: most of the object and scripting work I can do without too much trouble, though I am wanting ideas/advise/help on the model creation and scripting to prevent death and allow you to pick up your arm and run around armless. That would mostly deal with skeleton assignments I would imagine. Of course I also really want to hear your thoughts on this project, is it worth my time and effort, would you like to see it made, would you use it, and would you be interested in aiding in the creation of this project be it advisory/scripting/meshing/mapping/etc. FYI I am familiar with blender nifskope paint shop pro photo/GIMP I also have maya 2009 though I only have it to use for the creation of a game I am working on and haven't learned much about it yet. so post your comments/advise/requests and hopefully in the near future we will be able to add a new element to wasteland survival! Or maybe just a robotic arm with a storyline? It would make ALOT more sense, plus the whole armor gibbing would be confusing? ecksile Posted November 24, 2009 Share Posted November 24, 2009 He is right about the whole animation limitations. If your pipboy arm gets blown off how would you activate the pipboy? If you cant activate the pipboy how would you reattach the arm? If your Leg got blown off how would you walk or run? Would you still be able to shoot? If your right arm got blown off you wont be able to shoot until your arm is reattached. On top of that i don't think there is anyway to bind any special animations to the player to accommodate for this yet either. If you lost a leg you would still run like your leg was attached. Its an engine limitation and could only be changed by editing the engine itself I'm pretty sure. If you do succeed later on binding animations to the player upon these certain circumstances. Not many people can animate and you would need at minimum 5 new animations possibly more. Its a good idea dont get me wrong, just not to probable because the game engine limitations. Also with the no death on dismemberment i believe that's hard coded into the game engine as well. Again even if you did find some way of a work around i think it would be glitchy. Try this go in game and get killed and just before it goes to death cam type in resurrect on your character and notice how the body will become glitched you can play and move but you will be a ghost. Those are some of the larger bugs you will have to find workarounds for. I'm sure there's plenty of smaller things I'm missing as well. I would suggest talking to cipcis if you get a chance about the scripting parts to see if any of it is even possible. Then talk to ghogiel, skree, or saiden storm about the dismemberment.
