Stepping into the modding world

First of all I wanted to thank every modder who makes the game more beautyful, interesting and funnier.

In second place I have to appologize if my english is not quite good but I will try my best to make myself understandable.

And finally to the point: When I found this web I sold my ps3 FO3 and bought the FO3:GOTY lol. Not for the DLC (I was a little bit dissapointed since it´s more like shooting a bunch of new enemies with some new perks and some new weapons) but for the incredible mods and fanmade quest (like CUBE or aztheck´s weapons :D).

Anyway, a lot of ideas came into my mind (when I say "came" I mean that I had some ideas, not that some ideas filled my brain with "semen") and I´m awared that modding is not easy and I know almost nothing about scripting but I know som´ about graphic design, I´m studying som´ 3D graphics too and I´d like to use my learning to make something interesting with the G.E.C.K. engine. The rest I guess that I can ask or learn with the time. The only thing I have for now is the history but won´t spoil anything yet.

The idea is to make a very new start in a brand new place. Won´t be of the dimensions of the original game, of course, but it will be "fresh" to see something different I think. I´m starting to watch some mapping and G.E.C.K. tutorials but about modelling....

Could you give me some advices? I guess I will start modelling simple objects but for what I´ve planned I may have to model some kind of humanoids... People who make those body sets like dimon99 what do they use? Their own models from 0? They use somekind of library models? Or is it necesary or easier to import game models and reshape?

Thanks everyone for your time and attention and sorry for the long speech. I hope I´m not asking noob stuff or annoying with these questions but I´ll try to compensate with my future work :P

Welcome to the community!

I have a good general knowledge of the GECK (Building, scripting, quests, etc.), 3d modelling and some texturing.

I like to answer questions so I can help if you get stuck on something.

I also have a little advice:

Don't start big, make a lot of little individual things to get used to using the tools first.

if you have trouble with anything its best to try the stickied threads first, then use the search function, then if all else fails make a thread asking for help (make sure you say that you tried everything else first).

Once you are all set up and ready to start a big project, make sure you make a good wip thread in the forums. (some people tend to put there wips in the file section which is a big mistake because they soon disappear)

Anyway, I hope this helps!

If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Thanks for your answer. I appreciate your kindness and interest :D

I will do as you say and try bit by bit importing things to the game before I start with the "big thing".

For the moment I just "played" with some textures and stuff, that seems easy... We will see about importing 3D models lol.
