CRASH! CRASH!! CRASH!!!

I have been playing FO3 for awhile. But now I am running Win 7 and upgraded my pc. For some reason FO3 crashes each time I try to load an old game it crashes as it's trying to load the world. I understand that my saves were on Vista 32 bit and XP 32 bit, so I'm expecting some incompatability there. So I tried starting a new game...same thing...crashed to desktop. I am Running a good System.

-OS: Win 7 Ultimate

-Mobo: Asus Crossfire 2

-RAM: 8 gigs of DDR 2 1066

-CPU: AMD Phenom 9850 Black Edition 2.5ghz quad core

-HDD: Western Digital Raptor 36gb for OS Seagate 500gb for Games/Media

-Video Cards: Dual ASUS ENGTX275 running SLI

I have updated Direct x to version 11. My Nvidia cards are driver version 191.07 the latest one as of today. All other Drivers are up to date. Tried running FO3 on the original version 1.1 something and it didnt work. updated to 1.4 and installed The Pitt and Anchorage, same thing. Then I updated to 1.7 and it still crashes. I shut of my secondary display and that didnt help. tried running in different resolutions, that didnt help. Tried XP modes to run the executable and Vista modes conclude with the same issue. I have also tried enabling only certain parts of my cores by using iNumHWThreads= using values 1-4 in the Default FO .ini and also tried changing it in the My Games directory along with changing bUseThreadedAI=0 to 1. No difference. Tried bypassing Win Live with FOMM. Tried shutting SLI off and nothing. Tried Enabling SLI in RendererInfo in the Save directory and nothing changed. I know there are people out there that run FO3 in SLI and it works for them, and I know there are people running it on WIN 7 so I am Completely stumped. I have reinstalled like 6 times just Today. :wallbash: Hope someone can help me out. Huge :thanks: in advance!

have you installed the unofficial fallout 3 patch?

if not.

- Uninstall fallout 3 via windows uninstall.

- delete any residual files

- clean your registry with a good registry cleaner (i recommend registryeasy or regcure)

- run disk cleanup (delete everything)

- reboot

- reinstall fallout 3 (do NOT use default location, install preferably to a 2nd hdd (not a partition))

- install official patch 1.7

- install any DLCs

- install unofficial fallout 3 patch

see if that works.

I'd echo the above, but without the Unofficial Fallout Patch. I don't use it and run just fine. Also, go to TweakGuides.com and look at the Fallout3 Tweak Guide, in particular, you'll want to look at the multi-core/multi-threaded settings. There has been a rash of x64-related posts lately.

The 191.07 nVidia driver ("certified" by nVidia) isn't the "best" one for Fallout3 (or Oblivion), as of this past week, it is still 186.17 (or 187.16? Regardless, the Tweak Guide lists it).

Definitely install to a directory other than default ... you'll eliminate a host of Windows UAC-related security issues. UAC is pretty harsh about permissions in the Program Files directory.

Hope this helps.
