Getting back into the game again

It might help to determine why you arent getting into it, but Id bet its the number one reason most people lose interest in a game: Youve already experienced it.

Id suggest looking for new quest mods, the Oubliette is a good one that just came out. Not really a quest mod, but a very fun/scary dungeon crawl.

Id also look for mods that completely change the dynamic of the game. Mods like Enhanced Economy change everything to do with money and merchants. FCOM makes things way harder and introduces lots of new creatures and items. nGCD and Progress present a new leveling system that works great together.

Kragenirs Death Quest is a very long but good quest mod with tons of mini quests. It will have you running to many old locations, but you will have fun returning to them trying to find whats new.

Just try making your game as different as possible from the one you are used to, and look for some new adventure type mods that will get you away from the original stuff you already know.

I'd also suggest overhauling the combat system (that was one reason I got bored with the game in first place) There are some great mods for this out there, Deadly Reflexs by Skycaptian being one of the most tried and tested, and Unnecessary Violence from Hex being one of the most ambitiously scripted Oblivion Overhauls I've ever had the pleasure of playing. And whats more, they are fully compatable with one and other.

A word of warning about UV though; Its still in the public testing phase, and there are around 15,000 lines of code involved in that, so there are going to be some issues. If you install that one, please bare in mind that its not going to perfect (yet) but it is fantastic, and judging by what he's already accomplished with it, Hex has the ability to make that work given the time and patience from us.

Another thing that sometimes seems a little bland after a while are the magic trees & associated skills. One of the (if not the absolute) best Magic Overhaul I know of is Midas. I think thats the most downloaded addon of all time on Nexus, and it adds a whole helluva lot of new spells and tricks for every magic school.

Its true I've spent many many hours playing the game but I've never actually beaten the main quest. I've gone through the dark brother hood all the way and most of the way through the thieves guild. I don't think i ever got very far into the expansions either.

I get bored with the game a lot. I just don't play it for a while and then I find myself really into it one night, or afternoon, or morning.

What really helps me get back into the game is when I have work to do.

A few mods that might make you more interested: They change little things, but sometimes the little things are what matter the most.

3rd Person Animation in 1st Person View - Replaces the 1st Person skeleton with the 3rd person one. It's soooo much better. I've been into 1st Person since Doom in the early 90's. I've played a lot of first person games. I'm sorry, but Vanilla Oblivion has one of the worst. It's just not realistic.

Better Music System - the ability to have different music for different locations (that you choose) is really nice. The ability to edit how the combat detection and battle music work is also really nice. But best of all, you can actually turn off battle music entirely. Combine that with music of your choice and you have a totally different game.

Denock Arrows - no longer will you have to waste a shot or shoot into the ground. One of a long list of things that should have been in the game but wasn't for who knows what reason.

Roughing It & Sleep Rest Any Time - no longer will your wilderness hardened ranger type have to go to a cushy inn to sleep. Also no longer will you get an all powerful message from On High declaring that YOU can't sleep when there are enemies nearby, and it's a mudcrab that you can't see.

Immersive Messages - I really hated after a while how the game would tell me what I can't do, and what my character thought. You are tired. You don't have enough experience to begin this quest. It's amazing what a few little edited lines can do. I am tired. I don't think I have enough experience to do this yet. So much better.

and of course, if you haven't done it before, get OOO. FCOM is a combination of OOO with a bunch of other overhauls. At least get OOO. It's way better than the real game.
