SpinningNickel
Right, I've been playing Oblivion for awhile, but am completely and utterly new to mods (so n00b-speak is appreciated) and have been playing around with a few for this game. I use Oblivion Mod Manager for installing and I tried using BOSS to sort my issues, to no avail. One mod that I'm desperate for is a good pet shop mod. I tried the Cheydinhal Pet Shop mod first, and it causes a CTD every time I try to get near Cheydinhal, where the shop is located (either by fast-travel or normal mode). I disabled ALL other mods, and it still happens, so it does not appear to be a conflict with another specific mod. I have tried applying to mod to both existing and new games, and the fault is always the same. I then tried Insanity's Pet Shop mod, which works... except that when I go to the shop, there is nothing for sale. All the shopkeeper menus are blank, and I can't find any reason for this either online or in the readme file. I would rather have the Cheydinhal mod -- it sounds like the pet selection is better -- but I have read that it is unstable compared to Insanity, so at this point I would settle for either one working as they should! Can anyone tell a poor little newbie what she's supposed to do??
Jenrai
Thats odd... I saw that Cheydinal caused instability too (as I've posted before I thought it rocked) so I switched to Insanity's and I've gotta be honest I've not had a problem with either. Did you d/l the updated .esp file for insanity's mod? Are you running the newest version of OBSE (Oblivion Script Extender)? I'm quite sure its needed for both. Jen ***Edit - Newest FULL version of OBSE. Not the beta if you aren't experienced with such programs, as it may very well cause you more problems than it fixes***
SpinningNickel
Oh wow. I knew I needed OBSE and downloaded it at the same time as the mods..... and forgot to install it, apparently. Whole new level of DUH. Thanks Jen!!

bben46
It seems that all of the creatures in the shop have contracted a rare virus.... Usually caused when you are missing a texture. Reinstalling may cure it. If not post back and let us know and someone will walk you through installing the textures in the right place. Many mods also require the latest patch, or some other mod to work. Check the readme from the mod to see if you overlooked one.
SpinningNickel
Still glowing. >> I've had a good look at the readme file. The mod is compatible with my version of the game, and installation is as simple as extracting the folder to the C://...Oblivion/data folder, which I have. I've double-checked all the folders manually, and all the textures and meshes seem to be in the right place, but, well... still glowing. When I'm further away from the people or pets, they don't glow, but up close, they do. Once, immediately after a fast travel, it stopped, but it kicked in again and I had a brightly glowing spectacled bear as soon as I started moving again. EDIT: I have done the "clean install" process as detailed in the readme, to no avail.
Jenrai
Well... thats freaky... and I think would indicate more of a texture clash if the textures are there sometimes but not all the time... perhaps you have another creature mod & thats overwriting some of the textures? I'm not sure if this is always the way way to do it, but I've found as a rule if two mods alter the same thing, and one is an OMOD, allow the omod to overwrite the texture. If its two regular mods, allow whichever one is the latter in your load order to. (further reading may be required, I'm no genius at this stuff but it has helped me fix missing textures and meshes occasionally in the past) I've actually been working on getting more 'Base' mods for whats (hopefully) going to be my final full install of Oblivion lately, so I've not been using the petshop a great deal, however, I'll nip back and have a nosey tonight if I get some time.
