What's all this beautification about?

I like a mixture of some ugly NPCs and some attractive ones, with various degrees in between. The same goes with items: I like some to look badass and pristine, while others I want to look worn out and abused.

There's a fat-body model for NPCs but unfortunately clothes and armor aren't adapted for it so if you want fatties they all have to look the same. :verymad:

Too bad, if it was possible to create a chubby warrior princess, maybe I would have tried that for fun. :D These guys would have the innate ability to tackle their targets to the ground and sit on them while slashing their throat. Something like overwhelm for humans.

I remember the witcher having the same problem, all peasants and nobles and whatnot looked the same, all the guards looked the same and so on. 3 faces for all npcs, the special ones excluded.

That was probably the only thing I really didn't like about the Witcher. Attack of the Clones.

I'd *really* love to see the attack animation for spiders and dogs added to fat NPCs where they pounce on you and maul you until your companion knocks them off. Oh sweet Jesus.

I didn't change Morrigan, but Lelianna who was supposed to be "pretty" was pretty damn ugly comparative to some NPCs...

I dont like a world of pretty people, because thats just unrealistic, but i dont like how some characters look awesome in CGI, but turn out looking 10 years older in the actual game...CGI Lelianna was atleast decent looking, DA NPC Lelianna was deadset ugly

In my opinion the Lelianna from the trailer looked like a trap from a japanese anime. That's just what I'm talking about, I like the characters to be human, and that means that every single one attracts some people and others not. I like Lelianna from the game just fine, as I do Morrigan.

But, I have to admit, if someone was looking forward to the characters afters watching the trailer, they must be disappointed, since all characters look completely different in the game. But everyone's happy in the end since, thanks to the toolset, characters can be customized to everyone's liking.

EDIT: Looking at the trailer again, actually she does look much better in the trailer. But for me, the existing morphs only make her worse. Now, I really look forward to someone morphing her to her trailer-appearance.

Well, then you have the folks who combine the pretty mods with nude mods too... to each their own, of course, but I reserve my right to mock them :-) As I see it, there is already plenty of porn on the internet, I don't need it in my video games as well.

But there's a few artists who've been very obsessive about these sorts of makeovers, and produced very impressive work. They got so much into their favorite game that they wanted fiction, fantasy and eye candy to merge - sort of making their own little erotic playground. For example, there's some crazy Oblivion/Morrowind fan out there who created an entire oevre of erotic drawings, stories and skins for various NPC's and characters... all of it very fetishy and Yaoi-oriented. One has to at least be impressed at the level of dedication ... even if you can't really grok the concept of getting aroused by pixels on screen.

It's pretty offensive that you seem to automatically associate pretty with porn.

I'm a woman, I play Oblivion as the epitome of my FANTASY GAME and I make all my NPC's pretty in a mod I made called Myrmaad's Pretty People (unreleased and staying that way).

Oblivion is a single player game, and the most attractive thing about it is how it can be modded to make it completely to my taste, as yours can be modded to make it completely to your own taste as well. Be grateful.

But judging other people on their tastes doesn't make you look any better or holier, it only makes you look small.

Source of Definition

beautification

Definition from Wiktionary, a free dictionary

English

Etymology

Noun of action from English beautify, make beautiful, from beauty, from French beaute, from Latin bellitas, beauty or beautifulness, noun of state from bellus, beautiful, + noun of state suffix -tas.

beautification (plural beautifications)

1. Making beautiful, improving the appearance of something.

Now wheres the porn in the beautification definition?

I was deeply dissapointed that i found none...

Lets read the definition again... "Making beautiful, improving the appearance of something."

That can mean for everyone something elese, its TOTALLY up to everyones OWN standards to define for himself what beautifull is.

For one it might be a Flower, for the other one a pretty Face and for the next one some half naked girl in latex clotes...

And when we have a very customizable game everyone can mod it to his own perfect tastes, thats wonderfull, isnt it?

Why does someone use a nude mod?

Its the same reason why someone else is using a high resolution texture mod, because that person thinks it makes the game more beautifull and worthwhile for him.

And if someone prefers to play without mods or with a mod that makes pepole fat or ugly then its also fine.

I really cannot understand why should it bother ANYONE what SOMEONE ELSE thinks is worthwhile to mod or play?

If you dont like what you see move on and search what is more to your own tastes or make it on your own.

As long as it hurts noone its all fair for me at least.

Who am i to judge? - And who are you to judge?

So better stop arguing about what is beautifull and make mods that are beautifull for yourself and load them up,

be gratefull if someone else shares your opinion and have the dignity to respect it if someone disagrees.

And next time you see a mod: You dont have to judge the person that makes or uses it, you have to use it or not use it.

----------------

and to cheshire23, and anyone else who thinks you can mock someone because of their taste, YOU ARE WRONG, DEAD WRONG.

you dont have the right to mock anyone because of what he thinks is beautifull. Because that hurts the other persons feelings,

and that person will bait back because you provoked it and there we have drama and noone wants that.

You can allways disagree in a civil and reasonable manner, but you can not act like an ass because your in a forum on the net and hiding behind a nickname.

whatever thats my 2 cents at this topic, no offense intended honestly, take it or leave it, its just my opinion.

EDIT:spelling

Yeah, well, it will always be a struggle for every human to accept what one dislikes. But I guess talking and, by talking understanding each other is better than the old-fashioned way.

So for me, this discussion has come to 2 conclusions: People make their npcs prettier just for the fun of it without (or at least unintended) sexual arousement, and one is no better person if they dislike that. Really, I have a hard time admitting that this is an insightful thought for me, but it is. God damn it, there's some work ahead.

I still can't accept the utopian desire to make everything pretty, but this exceeds computergames and needs not be discussed here. If you want, you're welcome and I will join but I won't start it.

domatz, your question is legitime and i didnt intended to sound harsh to you, and maybe i wasnt specific enough about your root question,

but i wanted to make it clear that you should not prejudge a modification to a game, or its users or makers, because its beautifull or offending at your standards.

Noone has to fight for morality or ethics or tastes here, its just mods for a game.

Of course pepole will allways like or dislike mods, thats fair if they choose so, and thats the reason there are rankings and stuff.

But its not fair to judge others on what they like or dislike in a game mod, its allmost the same as if you judge someone by color or religion or country.

You have the full right to dislike beautyfication mods, and anyone else has the right to like them, and of course this can be debated,

talking and getting to understand eachother is a good thing. I didnt intended to say that discussing it is a bad thing.

It just makes no big sense for me, becouse Beauty will allways lay in the Eye of the Beholder. =)

But if discussing it makes sense for you then thats a good thing, and i like the conclusions you took.

On a out of game basis i can understand of course your line of thought, the media and models and advertising with photoshopped pepole all that i can understand and relate to,

becouse thats a society phenomen and bigger than a game or the mods for it. But that discussion should then be in the debates forum and not in the modding forum =)
