Lets do an overall +X% damage!...No that doesnt work. Yes, I agree combat must be more deadly, faster if you have to put 3 clips into someone's face even on hard the game is fail. But some weapons are ok and others are just plain broken. So while yes you have to increase all the damages an overall will not be enough. Missile Launcher - Seriously? 3 missles to the chest of a raider and they laugh at youChinese Pistol - If you have a 10mm throw this away...you start the game with a 10mm...Silenced Pistol - Nice idea...but it shoots peas..Assault Riffle - IE the machine shotgun..but instead of lead shot it shoots peasMini Gun - More like the Mini Mouse gun, So realistic to put 200 bullets into a raiders head and they look up and say...hmm is it raining or something?2x Barrel Shotgun - This is almost a better weapon than...a rock. To start make it so the player and NPCs health is static and doesnt change as you level. Then up the damage, and balance the weapons. First consider why you pull out a shotgun vs a sniper rifle...RANGE. All weapons have ranges they work best in based on their accuracy. Close - 2x Barrel ShotgunMedium/Short - Combat Shotgun, Pistols, Assault RifflesMedium - Pistols, Assault RiflesMedium/Long - Assault Rifles, Hunting Style RifflesLong - Sniper Riffles What else is important? Damage, Rate of Fire, and Clip Size. ( Which decides what you use based on type and number of enemies you are about to engage ) That is why you use one weapon over another. Example: Pistols Current Vanilla Situation: 10mm - The standard due to good accuracy, damage, rate of fire and clip size. The best pistol. Silenced 10mm - Poor damage, not worth the silencer .32 - You have a 10mm why use this? Chinese - You have a 10mm why use this? This = Broken Balance, but what is a way to fix it? (Lets give a 1 to 10 rating 10 being the best.) 10mm:Damage - 7Accuracy - 7Rate of Fire - 7Clip - 8 .32:Damage - 10Accuracy - 9Rate of Fire - 6Clip - 4 ChineseDamage - 6Accuracy - 6Rate of Fire - 9Clip - 10 So what does this mean, when would you use them now? 10mm - Anytime is good, great gun 2 enemies at Medium range. .32 - When you have 1 enemy, Medium/Long range. Chinese - When you have 3 enemies, Medium/Short range. This is what balance means, no gun is better than the other it just depends on the tactical situation. Melee - Short - Medium/Short - Medium - Medium/Long - Long Example The "Riffles" Assault Rifle - This is a Medium/long range gun, more accurate than the chinese assault riffle, but a much slower rate of fire. Great for a few enemies at a longer range or for a more accurate shootout when you are behind cover. Solid conservation of ammo ( Its supposed to be a riffle not a machine shotgun that does worthless damage ) Chinese Assault Riffle - This is a Medium/Short range riffle, not as accurate as the assault riffle but makes up for it with a faster rate of fire, and bigger clip. You pull this out when you need to burst down several targets at a closer range. Fair on ammo conservation Hunting Riffle - This is a long range weapon, a sniper almost, just without a scope, and less damage. But its ammo is easy to come by and its a solid all around performer but due to small clip and very slow rate of fire not to be used in a firefight or close up vs someone with something faster. You pick a target that lacks your range and get the drop on it, it dies before it can close the gap. Multiple targets a problem. WONDERFUL ammo conservation. So which one is better? None. They each are better than the other in the right circumstance. Which is the way the weapons should be... I AM SO SICK of these weapons are awesome, these are solid, everything else is ahahahaha OMFG are you serious? ( I mean honestly WTF does the missle launcher shoot? carrots? teddy bears? Sponges maybe? ) And the minigun shoots...peas? Spitballs?..same thing an assault riffle and 2x barrel shotgun shoot whatever it is... Thoughts? mytheos Posted November 26, 2009 Author Share Posted November 26, 2009 Yes I spent nearly two days looking at the damage mods and you either get stuck with a bunch of other options that you dont like, or the ones that just stick to the damage dont cover everything, or flat out have no clue. I get well I'll do all the energy weapons right...which makes everything else seem even more lame... Or you get someone that that thinks balance is making the .32 pistol do a bunch of damage but be wildly inaccurate... If it has 5 bullets and is wildly inaccurate, how much damage can you make it do to compensate, 1 shot kill a Yao Guai with a .32? That isnt balance. I gave a pistol example using the 10mm, .32, and Chinese saying make the 10mm the standard good in any situation ( which it is ) and then make the Chinese better for when you have a closer fight with more targets, the .32 for a longer range with only maybe 1-2 targets. So while the chinese isnt as accurate, it does a little more damage, and has a larger clip and faster rate of fire, think inside a building type fighting with a few targets or maybe a couple that are fast. For the .32 think more open area fighting where you can get a little bit of a drop on someone using a closer ranged weapon (shotgun), if the 1st couple shot dont get him, the following 1 or 2 will before he gets close enough to make any accurate shots. Or even in closer quarters where the 4-6 bullets you needed from the 10mm took enough time to get you shot, where the .32 would have been BLAM BLAM goodbye Sam. -Again- People need to think, why/when do I use this weapon? When/why in this situation is it better than the rest? Every time you engage you pick a weapon you think - What am I fighting, what weapons does it have, what is my range to target, what is my targets strength, speed, tactics, do I have cover, does it have cover, how many are there, what type ammo and how much ammo do I have? **And if in every situation you have the same answer, then balance = broken.** ( Dont get me wrong its ok to have one gun better than another in every situation such as a .32 vs .44 magnum, better clip, same rate of fire, more damage...but not to have one pistol clearly better in every situation than the other 5...if you have 3 targets you may want to put away the magnum and switch to a 10mm, because the more targets the less you can afford to miss. ) Here is the mod that I believe is on the right track, though I am using the beta the last released is bugged and you cant repair your armor with it 8-( http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=9636 He balanced weapons into Tiers and and based the armor resistances off Tiers as well. He also tweaked a few weapons. Low caliber - Med Caliber - High - Energy - Explosives So as opposed to armor offering flat protection it offers differing amounts vs different weapon calibers. So stuff in leather you can put down easy with about any weapon...like in real life. And something that wears power armor you have to respect more and if you dont have good enough weapons, you loose. So it balances out the cheesy "raider just ran through 2 landmines and is alive" and the "I just killed some guy in power armor using my 10mm pistol..." But DOOD I pulled the trigger more skillfully than you so it went through that inch think steel! or Man I haz no skillz so my landmines only bruise people. ( sure maybe an expert can overload it or does something to make it do more damage so it does more damage to say power armor...but I dont care if you are special Ed and wear a helmet and eat crayons all day if you get that landmine set that guy in tennis shoes...isnt wearing them any longer, period. ) The difference between 10 skill and 100 skill isnt Look at me I shot the guy in the head 12 times at point blank range and he is alive vs I shot a tank with a pistol and it blew up...
