Hello this is my first time trying to install any mods onto oblivion and the very first one im trying to download is Robert's Male Body Replacer, but i cant seem to find any detailed instructions on how to install this or any other mod, the read me only says to install it into the oblivion directory which i dont know exactly what that means, i really dont want to mess with the program files unless i know what im doing exactly so can anyone help? and how do i know if im installing the nude or the clothed versions. Thanks.

edit: also, it is possible to run mods with oldblivion right?

All mods should be used with Oblivion patched to the latest version. Quite a lot of mods require Shivering Isles installed. Using mods on versions of Oblivion earlier than 1.2.0416 will probably have nasty consequences.

OK, I had quite a bit of a problem with this recently and this is what I recommend.

Don't take my word as final, though, I'm only a newbie.

1. install Oblivion mod manager

2. Download Roberts Male Body v5 Beta (I think this is the latest, but it's hard to tell). Otherwise you probably want MaleBodyReplacerV4.

3. Extract files from archive.

4. Decide what version of the bodies you want.

If you want 'average + pants on' then you don't need to change anything at this point.

Otherwise

5. Copy alternative files from where they are into the directory that gets used.

e.g. from

Data\meshes\characters\RT\male\Musc\Nude

copy all files to

Data\meshes\characters\_male

if you want muscular, nude, males.

6. I strongly suggest that you create an omod using the Oblivion mod manager. It is possible to install manually without doing this, but I don't recommend it.

a) Start OBMM

b) Click Create

c) Click Add folder

d) Select 'Data' folder from where you extracted the mod.

e) (Optional, but highly recommended) fill in mod name, author, website, version, description (just copy from the webpage).

f) Click create omod.

g) (When finished) select mod in list and click Activate.

By using OBMM you can easily deactivate and re-activate the mod if it causes problems with any other mod (or if any other mod causes problems with it). I have found this ability really vital.

7. (Not recommended alternative to 6.) You can just copy the 'Data' folder over the 'Data' folder in Oblivion, but it gets messy and is best avoided IMO.

P.S. If you find this useful you can chuck me a Kudos point by clicking 'give' next to Kudos in my post. ;)

Its so i can run it on my miserable graphics card, but it makes it start up from a separate launcher so i dont know how i would run the mods with it.

Obviously I'm not familiar with oldblivion (I shall have to look into it for myself). The problem would be with OBSE that is required for a number of mods but not Robert's Body Replacer.

Using Oldblivion with OBSE is dealt with in this thread. It's a bit technical but if you follow the instructions in red half way down the thread it should be OK.

To sum up: Using the Oblivion Mod Manager (OBMM) loader is optional so no problems should occur from that. Using the OBSE loader is required, but there is already a way to get it to work and it only matters after you install OBSE.

[EDIT]I've looked into Oldblivion and there is a useful thread about it on their forum. Another site also mentions Oldblivion and says that it can be used with Shivering Isles but doesn't fully support it (nor does it fully support Oblivion 1.2).
