Custom weapons to Oblivion

I´m not sure if this is the right place for this topic. I´m trying to create a custom weapon for Oblivion. I created the weapon using Blender but I have problems creating the texture for the weapon. I have followed a couple tutorials that show how it is made but it just doesn´t work for me. Is there any other tool that would allow me to just paint to the model or an easy way to create the texture for the sword.
