Guys, have you never seen Star Wars?

It clearly says in the beginning of the movies:

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.

That tells me that the movies are filmed in a distant part of the universe, and as we all know there are alien races in star wars.

Conlusion:

Star Wars= My bible= True= Yep, there are Extraterrestrial intelligence in this universe.

If you depend on "Star Wars" to tell whats true and what isn't, then you have some MAJOR prioritizing to do. If you were just joking, then lol, touche.

I am hardpressed to respond to your comments without engaging in a serious debate over the validity of the religious beliefs you base your claims upon.

I told you that you would be sorry. :D

The reason that I believe what I do is because I have what I like to call "eyes closed faith" I don't need to have a reason, or a hypothesis, and a bunch of evidence to back it up. I just believe, because I can either believe God or science, and to be honest, I find God to be quite a bit more credible. (see here)

My belief is as others have said in this forum that the universe is too big for there not to be something resembling intelligent life elsewhere; and there have been discoveries on Mars precluding to the existence of complex bacteria near the equator.

I'm sceptical that anything else would resemble humans or even had the same thought processes, religion, government or culture. Quite honestly if we did ever discover life that resembled us I would immensly dissappointed.

Eltiraaz, as for your claim on, "I know this because I believe what my God says, and he says that only his children will enter heaven. Any other creature of conciousness, or intelligence, therefore simply cannot exist. " I find this to be tinged with truth, not for the same reasons that you profess but simply in the diversity I experience everyday on this world.

(I'm really trying not to make this a religious debate)

With the vast number of religions that are practiced in the world I find it hard to believe that every human is bound to the same heaven, and in my own beliefs I find that it is more about attaining communion with a higher being (God) than finding a specific place or looking forward to something that is 'promised'.

In regards to ET life, I would think they would have their own religious practices that differ greatly from those of mainstream Judeo-Christian creed. For me this leaves the sense that if what you say is by some unseen law truth than I can reach heaven and whatever other intelligent being will reach theirs. Simply put...to each their own.

I also feel that as a human race we simply aren't prepared nor deserving of knowing whether or not life exists elsewhere. Sometimes I think they're watching us and laughing at how pathetic we treat each other. Until we as a race can reach a common understanding of what it really means to be apart of a larger, world community than I believe we shouldn't have the gift of knowing who else is out there.

I can either believe God or science

Not True

Belief in God is not the same as belief in the bible

It IS true that somebody(most likely not god) wrote it. There is no way I would consider the putting the bible in any categeory except fiction, however believing in God himself does not mean you are damning science. I t is your opinion. Science is fact. In this world god can be accepted or denied but not proven.

If I were to say that i believe in god but not the bible, what would you say. That I believe in science but still have opinions. That extra-terrestrial life may exist as well as god.

I think if god does exist and did create science i think it would mean he'd rather have people who think and decide for themselves , like he, than have blind bland followers who don't question the validity of each matter before themselves and think there is only one option. when each answer is merely limited by the amount of thought and imagination put into it

Forgive me for rambling but it is hard for me to tolerate ignorance, stubborness and pride when we have a mind possibly given by god (a gift of god) and choose not to use it

Another topic what would intelligent life believe in?

Wow, no biases in this one.

I believe that there is other life out there. I do not believe they are little green men or big skinny grey things with big eyes. The mere shape they have apparently taken is enough to convince me it is a figment of the human mind. Similar to the Greek and Roman gods; made in man's image.

Scientifically speaking, it is very probable. They are constantly discovering new planets, some with atmospheres similar to Earth's... with a 20 billion year head start. I do believe, that if there is life out there, it is completely unlike anything a human could comprehend. They do not "speak" English, maybe they don't speak at all. All our assumptions are based upon our belief that other life would be similar to us, and to me, that's just silly.

#1. Even if there isn't currently intelligent life, it will eventually come about through evolution (I know someone else here said this.) And well, it's just hard for me to NOT believe it, because there's gotta be like hundreds of thousands of planets out there that have life, and if none of them have a sentient species, I will be very surprised.

Well, i'll go for the #1 too.

But i really wonders if there is any intelligent life at all ...

Are we really intelligent ? that is the question.

All depends on the reference you take...

In the same manner than when you're sitting in a train you can either be considered as moving or not moving (if you consider only the train) we can all be considered intelligent ... or stupid, depending on the beings you take in consideration.

(I know my example is crap, but i'm very very VERY tired :P )

So Maybe some hypotetical extraterestrials could be considered as the only inteligent beings in the universe ;)

And furthermore, all depends on who is thinking :

We think we are intelligent, but we're cheating : we're both the competitors and the judge

If we encounter some very different alien beings, the thing might even go further : each one considering the other as stupid (resp. intelligent) or any combination of thought that can occur with beings with totally different way of thinking.

Basis for intelligence may differ - but personally as soon as species can communicate to any greater extent they're becoming "intelligent", of course, intelligence is in every thing living with a brain, but well, you know what I mean. :P

There is the possibility that we can develop farther beyond that eventually, in all likelihood I think every sentient race that has/will ever be in the uni/multiverse ends in either two ways. 1) They don't reach the required intelligence to live in peace and unity and work out the inevidable problems of living on the same 1 planet were they were created and eventually self-destructs before finding the required solutions (kind of where we are headed IMO). 2) The race matures fast enough or is lucky enough to live in peace and unity and figure out those answers in time and manages to start colonizing other planets and taking care of the problems on their own, maintaining it.

The likelihood of a race living very long in the "sentient" status is very low IMO, you can just see for how short a time the human race has been "sentient" and how much damage we've already done to this planet and each other. That's why I think if we find extraterrestrial life it'll be of the 2nd kind, in other words, they'll have been long enough to spread and explore and evolve into beings of higher intelligence than us. Any alien beings we'd encounter today IMO would be of much superior intelligence, most likely mature enough to be peaceful and they'd most likely find us rather than us them first (due to them having superior numbers, intellect and technology).

If you see an error in my deductions please let me know. ;)
