MMM Mishaps

My problem is this: I downloaded MMM and got that texture issue a lot of other people complained about, where the monsters affected by MMM have insane changing textures. I tried using Archive invalidation invalidated but the suggested version kept telling me it couldn't find the Fallout 3 folder. Then I tried the manual, following the instructions and still nothing. The textures are still wonky and the game has been crashing, also the faces are horribly mis-colored. :thanks: any help would be immensely appreciated. oh and BtW my other active mods (though I've tried disabling them, it isn't a conflict) are the Dessert Eagles and weapon mod kits.

Texture mismatches, etc. are quite common if you aren't patched to v1.7 of Fallout3.

Also (but not in the case of MMM), you can see texture oddities in mods created with pre-v1.5 versions of GECK. To solve that (and other problems), get ElminsterAU's FO3Edit. You'll also want Miax's great FO3Edit Guide - Web-enized, not only for using the utility to find and resolve mod conflicts, but in this case for running FO3Edit in Master Update mode (which gets rid of the GECK old version texture issues, amongst other things).

Wow, thank you for your complete and... good(?) answer. But I found the problem, I feel quite foolish really. I just needed FOMM! After that my archive inval. inval. worked and everything sorted itself out. I wish someone would've told me it was neccesary, and not optional. Thanx anywez tho csb!

Don't you have to wait 4 days in game for a respawn before the new stuff can take effect?

You may be right my friend, however I was getting the new monsters (the baby ones and huge ghoul groups and all that) but the textures were super crazy, like shifting from vanilla to flashing white and purple and sh*t to camouflaging with whatever they touched! All the new mutants showed up immidiately after I installed the mod though... maybe you're thinking of when you update the mod?

Idk I've had werid stuff happen because I didn't wait the 4 days in game for a respawn.

Which is a super pain in the A** if you have primary needs, now you have to have 4 days of food just to start.

Thangs I ran into, some npc's would be rendered right, then some you couldn't see at all...

The white an purple stuff could be, just some flook missing texture things

but I've seen the wierd purple, which is the grapics card messing up how normal maps work.

kind of looks like that, but anyway that's something you run into from like ctrl alt delete an changing the priority

or if the currently loaded game just goes corupt somewhere, a reboot or reload up of the game fixes it.

The way I understand it, is when you start a new game the spawns an npc's an stuff are vanilla

but once you install MMM all the textures for them are invaidated, thanks to archive invalidation

the 4 day wait or sleep, at a new game, is so they will respawn with the new awesome MMM textures.

I know for sure you used to have to do it with MMM, to tell the truth I quit reading the read me

after a few time installing it, but if you wanted you could give the MMM read me another look

to see if you actually have to wait 4 days. I kind of get tired of it...

But yeah, between the 1.4 an 1.7 patch somewhere MMM changed it from 3 days to 4 days

so it's pretty recent stuff, but then MMM has been updated like once a month idk

Heck just try it, start a new game, then the trick is go inside somewhere, a small cell without any npc's in it

then wait or sleep 4 days, an save the game, then that's the starting point...

Me, after I install @ C:bethesda an download the patches, geck, fo3edit, fose, fomm, an other junk

then install all that, I run a RAOTW (random a**hole of the wastes) a test game

which I run around trying to make it crash, an minimize mouse lag, an frame stutter

then I download an install a poop ton of mods, come up with a sort of nice load order,

Then use FO3edit to move the load order like it should be, if I see it can be, while also

getting rid of all the conflicts an errors, see the webensized version of the FO3edit tutorial by CSB

So I got all that work done, defrag the harddrive, then I start the new game, Get to where you exit 101,

wait a while for the 10,000 scripts to start once you enter the wasteland, then I go to my small cell

with no npc's in it, I wait 4 days, or sleep, or get drunk an party for 4 days, then change all the in game

fose options for the mods, like bullet time, primary needs, real injuries, realistic weather, ect

maybe even ~showracemenu an go over the charicter again outside using ~TFC to check it out

after all that crap I'll finally save it, or save as I go

It's a real pain in the butt...

All that then a merge patch from FO3edit or even further a master update from FO3edit

and you cut about 90% of the crashes out...

I don't use the texture packs either, for performance reasons, you just can't really use AA an AF with the packs

You can use the large size vanilla textures, then turn off AA an AF in the fallout launcher settings, then open the

grapics card control panel an force AA via Override any application setting, then picking any setting you want

which you can pick a lot higher, because the grapics card is now doing the AA an AF rather than the fallout 3 software

I've ran around on SLI 32XQ AA an 16X AF without performance loss, then any setting above 2X in the fallout launcher

would yield a performance loss, which also most of the default launchers AA an AF results in texture spotting or dotting

It doesn't work that way for other games, hence why nobody really knows about it, it goes against all the rules for PC games

Even Nvidia will tell you it's better to have AA application controlled, but, in fallout 3's case it's totally backwards.

Then MMM, most of the optional .esp's can be injected into the main MMM.esp, because all the optional stuff is just plug in's which

change the MMM globals, while your editing with FO3edit on the load order, why not inject a few, by making them match

then delete those optional .esp, an replace them with guns or stripers... Then also you may want to explore different MMM settings

for performance reasons, 32 raiders running around is going to kill FPS, but it's more like 24 dogs running around, or just the use of the

nature selection optional .esp, it causes havok on the cell buffer besides adding to FPS loss from npc's killing each other, so idk...

been thinking about it though. MMM just got a nice update too I think, I haven't tried it yet...

...... I didn't understand hardly any of that! :D Thanx for sharing tho. I've been using mods for a couple years but I've never made one and I'm still not so savvy.

There see how ghay that is.

I just said the exact thing you said above.

It's like your privious post never happened, so I had to make it happen again to remind you what's a few inches

above.

Did you wait 4 days an see if it fixed it?

It's 9 days if you use FWE, btw.
