Another help-me thread.

The story so far: I just got my new computer (with Windows 7) and thought; "great, finally a reason to do it all again, install software, update software, mod software, make sure software updates and mods work together, repeat, etc..."

So after installing Fallout 3 and starting a quick game to make sure it worked I thought that this time, update first, install DLC second, mod last. Downloaded the 1.7 UK update and ran it. It went smooth until it reached 75%, where it made a pause and then gave me a warning pop-up saying that it couldn't find Ordernumber 5360 in the DLL-file xlive.dll (something like that at least, translated into english).

Now while I'm guessing it's just giving me lip for not wanting to have anything to do with windows live, I'm still asking if anyone knows wether the actual update works or not. My friend's got the copy of the game and he's not gonna be available for some time so I wanna do this right, which is a bit like trying to get a strike at a bowling course with beach ball.

Aw sheet. Found a promising looking collection of files on gamecopyworld that seems to bypass the screwed Xlive.dll files. But it seems Microsoft, in their infinite wisdom, have scattered all the files all over my system files :/

Edit: well well, the files from your links looks like they're working. I take my hat of for that :)

Install Timeslip's must-have Fallout Mod Manager (FOMM). Once installed launch FOMM, click the "Install tweaker" button. Check the "Use fake xlive dll" box. Close FOMM. Of course, this approach totally disables Games for Windows Live in Fallout3 (yay!). If you have GfWL-downloaded DLCs, you can use Games for Windows Live Disabler to disable and move the DLC content from their GfWL installation directory into your Fallout3/Data directory.

Once GfWL is disabled, you can then go on an install the 1.7 patch (though normally you would want to patch to 1.7 before installing DLCs, this might be a good workaround in this case if you aren't overly concerned with updating Microsoft's GfWL app).

Hope this helps.
