Stolthet
I recently got a new computer that runs Windows 7, and while I can get Fallout to work, if I try to enable any mods, it crashes instantly. I'm up to date on my patches, and everything worked on my old computer with XP. Is there something I'm missing?
csb
Some key points (based on the "working in XP" statement):Install Fallout3 to some directory other than the default Program Files/Bethesda...etc directory. C:\Games\Fallout3 seems a popular destination  , but any non-Program Files or C:\Windows directory will do. This minimizes the impact of Vista/7's very stringent security control of the Program Files directory. There are options to disable UAC -- don't disable UAC (the sole exception being during install of Fallout3/DLCs if you are getting a UAC/SecuROM DVD conflict, re-enable after install). Disabling UAC in Vista/7 creates huge security risks for you.In Windows Explorer, go to your install folder of Fallout3, right-click on Fallout3.exe and select Properties. In the Properties dialog box, select the "Compatibility" tab, in the section for Compatibility mode, check the "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and select XP (with the service pack option) from the drop-down list. At the bottom in the Privilege level area, check the box for "Run this program as an administrator".Make sure you have the right video driver (and other drivers). This is particularly true of nVidia graphics cards. Go to TweakGuides.com and read the Fallout3 guide. It lists the best nVidia driver to use for Fallout3 (and Oblivion) ... and it isn't the newest (even though the newest is "certified").If you are using Games for Windows Live (or downloaded DLCs using GfWL), disable it. The Games for Windows LIVE Disabler utility on the Nexus not only will disable GfWL, it has the options to move the game content from the (hidden) GfWL folder to your Fallout3/Data folder and your GfWL saves to your regular Fallout3 My Games/Fallout3 folder. There are other things that can be done, but these will hopefully get you past the immediate CTD stage. Stolthet
Well, I tried all of those suggestions seperately, then all at once, and I still get the "Fallout 3 has stopped working" error message. :wallbash:

mooncarver
there must have been an error during the install process or something, because i'm using win7 as well and so far i'm having the usual ctd's now and then.
