Megatarius
WARNING: RANT /Begin Rant: 99034903349902xliso09023co0939..... _ So I complain a lot about this game. A lot. I've said things like, "...feel like they were designed by an 8-year old". I've tried to minimize this sort of thing recently, despite the fact that venom continues to build. And I know they read this forum. I have first hand experience with another development company/studio reading things I've posted online and reacting badly. (I don't want to go into details, but through my school I have met several people from the animation and special effects industry, including a major animator from the 80's, and sometimes it went well, sometimes it didn't. Regardless, let's just say I know how small this world actually is.) I wouldn't be surprised if people who work for Bethesda are regular posters on this forum. Maybe they're modelers and texturers. Maybe they wrote the main quest. Maybe they meticulously researched clothing styles and armor. Either way, I'm sure they know everything we say about this game. There are a number of things about this game that not only annoy me, but also kind of piss me off, as if I'm entitled to something better than what was released for my money and use by others. I would have quit a long time ago if it wasn't for modding. This game has completely superceded GTA IV in my game time. I used to play GTA games almost all the time. San Andreas was released for a lesser system than 360 and it felt more real, and was larger, and had no load times outside. But this game just drew me in. The ability to play any character I wanted was such a novel thing for me, I was willing to put up with a lot, and then I discovered modding and I was hooked. And then I did what I always do: Blaze ahead without thinking about my actions and complain, complain, complain. I'm not the only one who complains about this game, but I did start a successful thread dedicated to complaining about this game. So why should I apologize to the developers? After all, the only thing video game fans do more than play video games is complain about video games. We're the taxi drivers and barbers of the video game world. They know more about politics than politicians, and we know more about video games than the developers. I don't know. I think some of my comments were just plain rude. I hope not to anybody here, but I can see a few Bethesda people reading some of the things I've said and going "Ouch. I busted my ass on that part of the game. Sure it's not perfect but God..." I just came from two years of critiquing other people's work, and having other people critique mine. I have a hunter's eye for screw ups and things that don't work right. The other day I worked 23 hours straight in Maya because I kept seeing things that weren't right, and I wanted to impress my superiors. It paid off, but I'm sure everyone at Bethesda does that all the time. I probably don't even know what a rigid deadline is, and I've had my share of rigid deadlines. So I took one look at the psychic guards and Argonians with mammalian human bodies and got completely distracted by my irritation. At the time, I would have said, "I can't help it. This never would have flown in my classes at school. What's it doing here?" I still think that's true, but about a month ago, I had a lightening strike of a revelation, and realized just how lame I've been: It's pretty much a given these days that games need to be released for XBOX. It's sad but true. I was convinced that Bethesda put out what they thought was the perfectly polished game. It literally took 4 months of playing Oblivion before I realized, maybe they want us to mod it. I know, it's pretty obvious in hindsight, but I didn't think of it for the longest time. I do that sort of thing a lot. It's pretty sad, I know. You're constrained by the marketing execs upstairs to rush it to production for XBOX 360, so why not just give the jocks what they want and then leave it completely open ended for modding on the PC? Let the people that want more, make it. It's a genius way of getting around the big bad capitalist machine that limits how games are made these days. So Bethesda, I know you're reading this. I apologize for my rude comments implying that your development team has no talent. I do architectural visualization as a living, I work in Maya all the time, I know the kind of stress this 72 hour day Red Bull and cigarettes lifestyle can cause. I still think there's no excuse for the psychic guards, but I'm sure you've been all over that for TES V for a while now. I hope I'm right in posting this. It's been on my mind for some time. Thanks for reading. /END RANT.
xxXEvandarXxx
Send a kind and polite email thanking them for the wonderful, beautiful, and incredible (and so on) game they created. I'm sure they will appreciate that. :) I don't think Bethesda employees browse these forums, I barely see them on their own forums, but it's still nice to send 'em something like that :D
