GOTY SI glitche(s)

Am playing heavily modded (37 gigs, or so), but relatively perfectly playable GOTY (FCOM, OAVO, plus many assorted mods) edition with minimal CTD, freezes, or anomalies. However, having finished main Oblivion quest, which should allow SI, I have run into serious difficulties. I was not able to sit in the room with Hiskill upon stepping through the strange door, and when I no-clipped through the door into the SI realm there were many graphical (mesh) problems, such that as I approached the SI main city (Sheagorath, or is that the deities name, I can't remember from when I originally played this expansion)it dissapeared, as did most other landscape as I got near; I approached on my fire-drake (thank you Akatosh).

 

I figured I'd have mission-difficulties resulting from by-passing Haskill and no-clipping through the door into SI, yet I did not expect the substantial missing meshes, let alone not even being able to sit down in the room with Haskill so as to properly begin SI. May be that the Unofficial SI patch is causing this? or the MOBS version of UoP SI required by FCOM?---does anyone know? Plus, I came across a ghost-woman, looking towards 'strange door' as I swam across towards that door, but she only spoke to me without offering responses; i don't remember this from playing SI when released, so perhaps there is a relevance here?

 

Anyway, I would very much appreciate any enlightenment which may be provided.

I should probably add that when installing FCOM related stuff, I have always installed the SI versions, even though whenever there are included installers (.exe) there is a tendency for them to say that SI is not found (while GOTY clearly has it, and I have been able to no-clip into SI with a map and visuals while aloft on my fire-drake).

Yar, that's a whole lot of mods to check.

 

If I was stuck in that situation what I'd probably try would be ...

1) take a copy of your current Data folder, a copy of your active mods list (OBMM), load order list (OBMM) and equivalent for bash.

2) Copy latest save file somewhere for safe keeping.

3) Uninstall every .omod with OBMM.

4a) Delete Data folder and replace with clean backup taken when you first installed Oblivion. (You did take one, didn't you?)

OR

4b) Reinstall Oblivion (IMPORTANT: See Ben's Reinstalling Oblivion help file).

5) Carefully* re-install the mods you really need / use, one by one, from latest version available. Keep checking that the problem does not occur (by loading from a save file saved shortly before problem was first noticed).

 

It is likely that you will lose objects and stuff but I think you'd have a good chance of at least finding exactly which mod causes the problem and having a decent set up at the end of it.

 

* Recommend creation and use of omod conversion data where possible for non-omod mods in order to make it easier to add/remove mods.

I see a lot of errors in this load order. BOSS is not perfect, although it is the best we have. There are many errors listed for incompatible or obsolete mods. Putting in an incompatible mod can always cause strange problems. An obsolete mod is usually obsolete for a reason, such as there was a major bug in it that has been fixed by the newer version.

 

Then, you seem to have made no attempt to resolve the mods that BOSS was not able to place.

Load order will not fix everything, some mods will just not work with some others, and some require special handling. There is no magic formula to set load order, just a set of general guidelines. If your load order works and you are able to play the game, it is right - for you.

 

Before you start messing with load order be sure you have patched to the latest version of the game - some mods will not work unless you do.

If any mod requires OBSE, be sure it is properly installed and you start the game using OBSE.

Be sure you have the proper tools to change the load order, usually OBMM and BOSS

 

Any mod that changes something in another mod MUST be loaded after the mod it makes changes to. Such as patches to a mod.

 

My recommendations

Batch loading a bunch of mods without testing is asking for trouble. The time you think you will save will be more than made up by the time you spend in troubleshooting. Install one at a time, test that one, then after it is working install another one. This way your load order gets built one mod at a time. And you are never trying to 'fix' more than one mod at a time.

 

However for those who insist on making things hard for themselves:

Remove Deadly reflex and Streamline (if you use them) until everything else is working.

Use BOSS http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=20516 for your initial setting.

 

At the end of the BOSS order, there will be some mods that it did not know where to put. Use OBMM to place them manually.

After DLCs and quest mods have been completed they can be moved up. It is a good idea to have the quest you are currently working on near the end of your load order. They can be moved up when you start another quest.

 

After you have everything else working, add in the special handling mods (Stream line and Deadly reflex) ONE at a time.

However, having finished main Oblivion quest, which should allow SI, I have run into serious difficulties.

 

You don't need to do the MQ of Oblivion to get into SI. After a certain amount of time has passed you should have had a message about a strange door around a day or so after you created your character and passed the tutorial. You can go straight there at level one.

 

Unless you have mods that alter the time scale, but even so it would be soon after exiting the sewers the first time.

 

I was not able to sit in the room with Hiskill upon stepping through the strange door, and when I no-clipped through the door into the SI realm there were many graphical (mesh) problems, such that as I approached the SI main city (Sheagorath, or is that the deities name, I can't remember from when I originally played this expansion)it dissapeared, as did most other landscape as I got near; I approached on my fire-drake (thank you Akatosh).

 

I figured I'd have mission-difficulties resulting from by-passing Haskill and no-clipping through the door into SI, yet I did not expect the substantial missing meshes, let alone not even being able to sit down in the room with Haskill so as to properly begin SI. May be that the Unofficial SI patch is causing this? or the MOBS version of UoP SI required by FCOM?---does anyone know? Plus, I came across a ghost-woman, looking towards 'strange door' as I swam across towards that door, but she only spoke to me without offering responses; i don't remember this from playing SI when released, so perhaps there is a relevance here?

 

I can only assume you no clipped to test because SI is in it's own world space which is why you have a seriously messed up realm. All or most of the assets needed for SI haven't loaded correctly so you have missing meshes among other important things. It's definitely not an Unofficial Patch problem.

 

You must enter through the door and speak to Haskill in the correct sequence so the necessary scripts work properly to initialize the new world. Also after the first entry into SI you must always come and go via the SI door or you'll have serious dialogue issues in Tamriel and visa versa when going back to SI. I believe there is a mod or mods that get around this but I haven't used them.

 

As far as not being able to sit and talk to Haskill it sounds like an issue with your load order which is messed up as has already been mentioned.

 

Follow the comments made by the BOSS log to clean it up. You say you've had relatively few issues so far besides SI, but I'd bet there are a lot of big problems caused by your load order which you are now finding out.

 

Try making a new game with no mods active at all and see if the SI situation resolves itself. You should get the message after either waiting or sleeping around a game day and can go right to the island.

 

If that works then you know at least one of your mods is causing it, but it's going to take some diligent detective work to find what the cause is until you sort out your load order. That may not even fix it since all info is stored in your saved games and the error is possibly not repairable without starting a completely new game.

Howdy all; I appreciate your responses

 

I have now resolved the FCOM installation errors as directed by BOSS (I'll post my new BOSSlog below) save for a couple of exceptions: I have kept the obsolete EnhancedWeatherSIOnly.esm as the newest (1.3.5, plus updates 1.3.7 and 1.3.9) causes CTD on loading (w/ or w/out the updates); also, I keep HarvestContainers because, although BOSS sez OOO contains it, if I remove it than the helpful harvest animations do not work. Also, although BOSS still recommends UOP fixes, I have added the hotfixes which I obtained when following the BOSS provided link; additionally, the notes concerning the 4.5b Fransescos files are not relevant, as when I install them BOSS informs me that they are each and all redundant. I am not able to de-activate the 5 files recommended, as BashPatch building insists on re-activating the cosmeticcompilation esp---I have determined that there is no apparent difference between de-activating and leaving activated, gameplay-wise, however. Also, while BashPatch rebuilds just fine (I peruse all the settings before rebuilds, with no alterations unless a newly added mod requires it), if I alter the load order to place BashPatch last, my game will either CTD on load or will freeze when I try to load a save; this happens even when altering the modified date of BashPatch while unlocked, and then locking.

The upshot of the BashPatch positioning I referenced above of course dictates that the unrecognized mods all continue to load after the patch (else game will not play).

 

It should be evident by my updating this post that my dilemma in sitting in the room with Hiskill remains, thus resulting in the SI questline being unplayable: I know this because I have no-clipped through the wall, slain the gatekeeper, and cleared Xedilian (sp?), yet am unable to move Sheogorath along the questline as summoning Haskill only results in him repeating that I should sit, so as to be civil, at which point he vanishes back to the starting room. Also, though I forget if I read this in a reply here or on a different board, there are now strange scripting errors within the Isles.

 

One other problem vexing me is that it is now exceedingly rare for Mart Monsters to appear; my game runs very stable, so I have been able to play for 2 - 4 hour periods 5 - 6 nights / week and have only seen I minotaur and nothing else since succesfully installing FCOM (while I have WarCry goblins up the wazoo); any suggestions?

It sounds to me like you need to follow the advice of the pros and re-order the unrecognized mods by hand. You might try to load w/o them and see if the SI quest advances. If that works, find similar mods and re-order by hand (using full balo is easiest for me, but you can re-order through Obmm if you want). example: Order house mods with house mods,weapons and armours together, mods that change the environment with mods that do the same, etc. Patterns will emerge. Then place bashed patch last and rebuild it. Not sure, but this should fix it. It is almost certainly a load order problem, and I've never seen a load list with mods after the patch. That means that the mods you are loading last are modifying the bashed patch's hard work and nullifying parts of it. This is more than likely where your problem stems from.

 

I would strongly recommend trying to load your game without all those final mods (the unrecognized ones) to see if that's the problem. I would put money on it and I'm not the most experienced.

 

Second, there is at least 1 problem and 1 redundancy that I can spot off quickly skimming the list.

You probably should use the SI version. I am only assuming that it is named differently. That might help

 

And I assume that you have the Mobs version of the UO SI patch.

 

UOP Vampire Aging & Face Fix.esp is redundant with CosmeticComp. CosmeticComp changes the vampire aging and faces. The bashed patch is using the data from CosmeticComp to overwrite the UOP. This mod should be deleted as it is causing your data folder to bloat. Check the list of changes affected by CosmeticComp to find other redundant files that don't need updating.

 

This list pointed me to some cool mods, but I don't have the time to test it for you. It looks like if you re-order your mods, update your EiAmod and rebuild your patch last you should be able to play. I'm familiar with some but not all your mods. I hope that you find your answer. Again, I'm putting my money on the load order problem. If not, smegmus maximus.additem 'gold001' 10000.
