Elven_Ranger_uk
Can anyone tell me if there is a way to install dazip files without the updater? Every user mod that is a dazip file causes the updater to ctd for me, this is a tad unfortunate as there are some lovley sounding mod's out there that I should love to try. Thanks for any help. jwvanderbeck
Yes you can, it is just a standard ZIP file renamed. However installing it by hand requires editing a game data file by hand, so be very careful and back it up. If you extract the .DAZIP you will have a contents directory and a Manifest.xml file. The Contents directory is basically the same as My Documents\Bioware\Dragon Age\, so copy all files into the same folder from there down. Lastly open My Document\Bioware\Dragon Age\Settings\AddIns.xml and manually insert the data from Manifest.xml. Only insert the <AddInItem> data Or more simply, you could come help beta test DAModder which will do all that for you :Phttp://dragonagemodding.wordpress.com/damodder/

Thandal
People! Puh-leeze! There is no (legal) PC install of DAO that can't use BioWare's built-in program DAUpdater.exe to properly install a valid ".dazip" file. None. If yours isn't working there is a problem, but it has nothing to do with "WinXP vs Win7 vs Win8", or "32-bit vs 64-bit", or "EA/Origin vs Steam", or whether or not you have the UE. You are simply not doing something the right way, or have an incomplete/damaged install of the game itself. Steps to install a ".dazip" file: 1. Place the ".dazip" file to be installed somewhere OTHER THAN in your game's folders. 2. Find the program "DAUpdater.exe" It is located in the "Program Files" folder of the game itself. This will be: "C:\Program Files (x86)\ [folder specific to your type of install] \Dragon Age\bin_ship". (Yes, the exact path will depend on your OS and install mechanism, but if you can't find DAUpdater.exe by searching your entire drive if you have to, you have a bad install of the game.) 3. Double-Click DAUpdater.exe. (If your machine crashes at this point, you have a bad install of the game.) 4. Click the tab "Select DA Zips" at the bottom of the DAUpdater window. 5. A new Windows Explorer window will open. Navigate to the location where you placed the ".dazip" file in Step 1. 6. Double-Click the ".dazip" file to be installed. The Explorer window will close and the file will be showing in the DAUpdater window. 7. Select (click on) the ".dazip" filename in the DAUpdater window. 8. Click the tab "Install Selected" at the bottom of the DAUpdater window. (If your machine crashes at this point, you have a bad install of the game.) 9. Watch the progress bar fill. NOTE: There is no "Done" or "100%" message. When the bar is full, the ".dazip" is installed. (This took much longer to type than the process itself does! )

Thomas1960
My problem is that these files are not installing as a .dazip file but as a .RAR file. How does one change them?
Thandal
@Thomas1960; A ".rar" file is an "archive" file. It contains one-or-more files that have been compressed and packaged together to save disk-space and bandwidth when transmitting them. Before you can actually *do* anything with a ".rar" fiile, (or a ".7z" file, or a ".zip" file, and there are others but they aren't very common) you have to extract the actual files from the compressed archive. There are various programs to do this task. For ".zip" and (I think) ".rar" files, Windows has the appropriate utilities built-in. For ".7z" files, "7-Zip" is the program you want. Once extracted, install the ".dazip" file to your game as I described three posts above.
