really bad pop ups and messed up sky

hi guys,

i installed quarls texture pack 3 redemized, landscape lod texture replacement and tes4lodgen. now objects like trees, stones, ruins etc. are popping up when i'm getting closer. i'm pretty sure this is not how it's supposed to be, the range at which terrain changes is waaay to close. and shouldn't objects fade slowly in and out like npc's when they're entering a house? this is really annoying, so if someone can tell me how to fix it (maybe playing around with some .ini entries), i would really appreciate it.

another (smaller) problem:

after installing the cosmic night sky mod i'm getting a "broken" night sky. it's like the old texture is cutting right through the new one. i can see the lines where both textures are meeting. i'm not really sure what went wrong here. if this is too vague, tell me and i'll try to make a snapshot of the problem area.

There is a slider in the video options that sets the distance that objects pop into view.

However, if you have a weak computer setting this too high will cost FPS.

To better tweak these kind of settings, I recommend the Tweak Guides. http://www.tweakguides.com/

For best results, First, use the guide for your Operating system, then the one for your video card, and then for the game.

The messed up sky sound like 2 mods trying to control the sky. The cosmic night sky doesn't show in your list though. It may have been truncated.

Here is an easier way to get a load order into a post

thanks for your reply! the thing with the night sky seems to be solved now. the night sky "picture" simply didn't fit into the generic night sky which surrounds the gameworld. after choosing a different sky object, those border lines vanished and it became a seamless picture once again.

regarding tweakguide, after tinkering with the ini i wasn't able to make those pop ups less aggressive. but maybe i'm overreacting and this is how it's really supposed to be. if someone can come up with possible solutions, i would greatly appreciate it.

oh, and whats wrong with how i've posted my load order? ;) i've even used code tags.

Here is a portion of the relevant section from From the Tweak guide, page #5

Item Fade: This slider controls the distance at which items such as swords, shields, bottles etc. are visible. As you move the slider to the left, more distant items will no longer be visible - see the images above for a comparison. Note that this option does not make a significant difference to performance in most areas, and the slider also needs to be set fairly low (i.e. below 25%) to start having any noticeable impact. If set too low (e.g. 12%) it can give a distinct gameplay disadvantage by making it harder to find items near you in the game world. Therefore I recommend keeping this slider fairly high (e.g. 50%).

Object Fade: This slider controls the distance at which objects such as buildings, boxes, etc. are visible. As you move the slider to the left, many objects will be completely removed from sight. Note that moving this slider also moves the 'Item Fade' slider (see above) as well - that is, the maximum fade distance for objects also becomes the maximum fade distance for items. See an animated screenshot comparison by clicking this link: Obl_ObjFade.gif (640KB). Note that as the fade distance drops, some fairly prominent pieces of scenery are removed such as the pathway, the border around the tree and the stone wall to the right. While this can improve FPS, particularly in and around towns, buildings and dungeons, it also makes things very unrealistic and awkward looking if set too low.

Have you tried these settings?

What you are describing sounds like a problem I have seen when using the streamline mod. Which changes these settings on the fly while you play. That is why I was wondering if all of your mods were listed.

compared to what is listed in obmm this list seems really short, but thats all i have for now.

btw. i'm using streamline now as well and it doesn't seem to help with this particular problem. when i'm riding over this long bridge south of the imperial city, distant land on the other side abruptly transforms into "near" land and despite maxed out settings i can see grass gently fading in and out around me while moving. shouldn't the visibility range be high enough to not see this? oh, and everything is maxed out: distances, shadows, textures etc. this reminds me that i totally forgot to post my pc sepcs:

amd phenom II X4 955 (quad core processor)

4 gb ram

ati radeon 4890

let me post some images to show you what i mean. maybe thats how it's supoosed to be and i can continue playing without thinking about that matter (click on them to enlarge):

this is the bridge, distant land is visible

i'm coming closer, still distant land

http://img708.imageshack.us/i/screenshot2u.jpg/

boom, after reaching this range of distance the other side transforms into this. those black spots are also annoying btw

aren't bushes on the other side of this river supposed to be visible from here?

Streamline should make it worse. What it does is trade visual effects for FPS in game. If you stop moving and wait a few seconds, things will start to fade in when using Streamline. That is because when stopped you don't need the FPS boost, so it automatically increases the visual effects. You cannot lock the visual effect sliders when using Streamline as it is designed to improve FPS on low performance computer systems. On high performance it makes it worse if you try to force FPS of greater than 30 or so.

For troubleshooting, Try reducing your screen resolution, setting streamline's FPS setting lower (or disable streamline altogether for troubleshooting) I used it when I had 2G RAM. when I went up to 3G it was no longer useful.

Try disabling both RAEVWD mods and anything else that affects LOD in any way. Those distant views do take up a lot of processing power, and may be pulling down the near distance visuals.

You may also try Game Booster http://majorgeeks.com/Game_Booster_d6148.html

It kills the background processes that may be using RAM and stealing clock cycles.
