David Brasher
I am working on a worldspace, and there is no world map. The local map exists but does not center itself and there is no gold "Your Position" arrow. I tried the "generate local maps" function in the CS, but it is mysterious. It does not seem to do anything. And in the new area I just modded, there seems to be an accurate local map. This is after I did the local map function. The computer should not know about these new additions! If it is so smart, why doesn't it just make my local area maps for me and have a gold arrow? The Wiki is full of holes large enough to march an army through. I wanted to generate a world map or learn how to make one on my own, but here is the entire article: World MapsFrom The Elder Scrolls Construction Set Wiki The resolution of your image file will denote the level of detail you get in the map in game. The usable dimensions define how much of the map appears in the game. Halve the default values and you will only see the top left quarter of the original map. This is not entirely accurate though, as you'll see if you compare the default values in the CS to the corresponding pixel in the image itself, and then look at what you can see in-game. The cell co-ordinates then scale the location of the land markers within your map.[edit] See Also * Silgrad Towers guide for an in-game map Retrieved from "http://cs.bethsoft.com/constwiki/index.php/World_Maps" Categories: World | World Spaces This doesn't tell me anything I need to know at this stage. Anyone could slap together an inaccurate map in Gimp. I want a map that is the right size and shape and that has the map markers in the right places. I want to have a gold arrow that corresponds to where I am in the world. Are there any tutorials on making the local and world maps? Is there any accurate, clear, and complete documentation to read? Vagrant0
Long story short. No, there is no simple tutorial or image which can be used with any and every mod. Making a somewhat accurate map can be extremely frustrating and time consuming. Exanimis made a tutorial awhile back which covered some stuff, but still wasn't very clear as to the actual process of lining things up. Khet has a tutorial herehttp://www.tesnexus.com/articles/article.php?id=263but I'm not sure how good it is. The main problem people have is that the folder names for their folders are all lower case, so the game does not link properly to the file. This can be fixed by just capatolizing the first character of every folder. So, instead of:menus\map\world\rename the folders so that they areMenus\Map\World\ Beyond that, I can only suggest looking at some mods which have world maps and see how they're setup. The Colored Rooms Project uses both a blank parchment worldmap and a crappy, misaligned heightmap image for the worldmap image. Other mods might have it better, but as you can suspect, if I didn't manage to get it working to any satisfiable degree, it isn't exactly something that anyone would find easy. Fortunately, map markers will always appear in relation to the map extents (cells) as defined in the CS, and are always located in spatially accurate proximities. David Brasher
Thanks! I will start looking in those directions.
David Brasher
Thanks for the help! I now have the World Map working. I have a map with locations markers that appear on it after I discover the locations, and a gold position marker arrow. So now I can set to work fixing the map to make it match what the land is like in my mod. The problem was this: The error message said that the program could not find Menus\Map\world\MyWorldMap_Map.dds. So I was trying to give it a file named MyWorldMap_Map.dds. The problem is that you are not allowed to use underscores (_). So I had to change the file path of what it was looking for, and change the name to not use an underscore. I do not know why it was asking for a name with an underscore in the first place.
