illuminatus2009
This idea I've had for some time now. Some of you may have played the RTS Age of Mythology, a pretty old game by now. What I liked about it was the setting; the historical ancient world with the myths being real; gods, heroes and monsters etc from Greek, Egyptian and Norse mythology. I'm sure most of you know about these myths even if you never played that game. And I thought that would make a great basis for an Oblivion mod. This would inlcude new landscapes; the lands mentioned above + Hades. The lands would be connected by underworld passages, using Oblivion Gates. Hades would basically be Oblivion. In order to travel from say Greece to Egypt, you enter a gate, fight trough the underworld, and enter another gate. This should be quite possible for the Oblivion Engine. The Norse lands could be built using Bruma architecture, and populated by creatures as wolves, goblins and ogres (renamed trolls). Most of what's needed here is in the game already. Greece would feature minotaurs and cyclops, in Egypt you could fight Mummies + undead minions, giant scorpions, half-men half-jackals and so on. The latter two require more original content of course. Magic would be revamped and become "god powers" and mana would be "favour", it can only be regained trough praying at altars for example. There could be relics from myth as special items that are found in quests. I imagine each land would be about the size of Shivering Isles, one city and some wilderness in the first releases. Now I'm not demanding someone else to make this, merely presenting the idea. I haven't seen anyone try this or talk about it before. The idea isn't even fully developed, this is just the most vital details. What do you people think? Is it doable? Anything you'd add / take from the concept? I don't think it's too far fetched really, but I can not do it by myself as I lack modelling/mapping skills. If there is no real response I might try and get a project started for TESV which isn't too far away. kieranfoy
I like the idea for a few new lands based on mythology, but a total conversion may be a bit much, especially if it overhauls the magic system (which would then conflict with almost every magic change mod ever). Best just leave it at a new land or two, eh? Oh, BTW, what do you mean the fith game is coming soon? I don't even think it's in production. illuminatus2009
"Bethesda's Publishing Executive, Paul Oughton, indicated that the series' fifth installment could be released in 2010." Could be a silly rumor, but considering the success of TESIV there's no way they're not making it. About the magic, I didn't think of incompitability issues... But at least adding some new "themed spells" would be interesting, conjuring myth creatures and turning npcs to pigs. Not sure to what degree it would be a total conversion. There would be a portal in Cyrodill, but you would not be able to bring items to these lands; that would be uneqquipped and you will find some starting level gear at the beginning. They need more than a year to make a game, write the storyline, invent awesome new graphics and game engines and then totally screw it up. As for the automatic unequipping... eh, that won't be popular. People don't like losing their stuff. Can yoou at least bring things from the mythic lands bacl to Cyrodiil? illuminatus2009
I suppose you're right about the rumor bit, but when it does come out there will be a surge in the modding community. As for the unequipping, I think the new lands should be seperate in a way, without TES elven armour and all. It doesn't fit all too good. Not sure how I could bring the lands back to Cyrodill without making new land cells and all that. That way it won't interfere too much with the vanilla. So it's in Cyrodill in the same way the Shivering Isles are.

I dunno, take a runestaff from some wizard. Will the runsestaff be removed from my inventory when I return to Cyrodiil?
illuminatus2009
Oh, that way. No, I was just thinking of holding the myth lands free of Cyrodillian influence for a more unique feeling. Bringing stuff the other way is fine. I don't have any authority over what sorts of equipment people use there.
