Hellsing179
Im attempting to extract some armor icons for a mod im making. But when i attempt to extract the selected few, it says some thing like "System out of memory. Data thrown" And it doesn't copy over. After wards i just tried to find some thing that would let me convert some armor pictures i have on hand that i could use as a icon to a dds. but the only tool i could find had no instructions and i cant get it working. So, id appreciate any tips on how to extract the icons or how to convert a different picture into a dds.
mechine
I've been skanking around with textures for about 8 months and I haven't had to convert anything once. I didn't have money for photoshop. So when I got fallout, then the GECK, I followed the links to the free program called Paintnet. Paintnet for one thing loads up only about a million times faster than any other program out there. It does all the same magic as the others do, but it can also open, edit, an save all in .dds And you don't need any plug in or fancy software to do it, paintnet by it self will do .dds Also when you save you can check, generate mip maps, bam you just saved yourself a step. I got a pistol with some of you "happy fools" converted into .dds textures the file size was 1.2Mb for a tiny pistol, pfft Openned the texture with Paintnet, then saved it with mipmaps just to make sure it had mip maps at which point I noticed paintnet saved the file at only a 600kb size What what what, so I openned it up an compared the two, an they were the same thing the paintnet version was half the size though, so for performance reasons alone it's the way to go I guess the part I liked the best about paintnet was that the users create the plug ins for it and there's about 3000 different plug ins you can use for tools, stuff like chrome or maybe fill gaps Metalize... You have got to try fill gaps, you can cut holes in a texture, then fill gaps will compare the pixels around the hole and draw in new pixels to match the surroundings. Pretty cool stuff. There a plug in's to create normal maps, but I haven't figured out how to get it to work well yet. I guess you can use the converter if you want to do more work an have more of a wait, an a larger file at the end. Since it's just a small icon, I figured that it would be more easy just to paintnet it
