jaosals42
Read the book Tuck Everlasting and you'll think twice about living an eternal life. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuck_Everlasting Actually, there is a gene that was recently found that was actually traced to controlling age. Turn it off and maybe aging will end. I don't know if it's been tried, but maybe someone has already turned it off on another person... (I read about this somewhere, but can't remember where) However, that doesn't mean that a person can't die of other means, being shot, heart attack, diabetes, falls, etc. Anything that disrupts your body's homeostasis is still going to kill you. rbrophy2
Thats what im saying i think that eternal life shoul be a punishment worth than the death penalty even then the brain and other organs will fail
jaosals42
Living for another 100 years though, I wouldn't see that as a punishment if I were to live for that much longer than I'm expected to live. While I am glad I don't have to live forever, at least I'd appreciate it to live for about twice as long as normal. And age twice as slow physically as well so I am still capable of doing things. Sharkull
Prolonging quality lifespan: sure. Prolonging the agonizing last gasps of existence: no thanks.
UncleRoe
Way back in the day "may you live forever" was an insult. Of course it was said by warriors and vikings who had hoped to die in the heat of battle and prosper in valhalla.. People have always had trouble with the human lifespan.. When the average expectancy was 40 years, they wished it was 85-95 and now that it is, people want to live into their hundreds. if we could survive into the 300's.. at 250..some selfish angel is going to say "man..life is short.." it's always going to be short for us..and it's never going to be enough for us.. which makes me wonder what kind of trouble we will get ourselves into AFTER we have discovered everlasting life..how much more could you really want? Another couple things to think about..With everlasting life..Alot more people are going to be born into this world and alot less people are going to die..so it raises a brow for population control. on a side note.. what happens to the man who has everlasting life..commits a crime..and gets charged 25 to life? One more thing..and this ones a biggy.. is, what kind of retaliation from the fanatic religious groups would you expect from a breakout invention of immortality? cultures based on that when you die you go to heaven? they will have a fit.. and may possibly start a revolt..or worse.. Now.. incase a mod sees this i wasn't starting a religious debate.. just pointing out one of many ideas for the consequences of eternal life. peace. UncleRoe
ah..but if i paid for immortality.. then shot myself in the head and died..i'da wasted my money wouldn't have i? lol Everlasting life would have to come with benifets.. You'd figure, if they found a way to keep people around indefinitly.. then things like age progression and bullet wounds would be a thing of the past, hopefully so are plagues and STD's.. lolCancer would almost definitly have to be cured or near cured since i would think getting rid of body aging would involve getting rid of skin cell death..and since we can't speed up skin cells without creating cancer in the progress.. it is a giant obstacle standing in the way of living forever.
