Malak255
The title pretty much explains all, but to go into further detail, I've been having quite a bit of trouble with my Oblivion install. I had previously installed Oblivion, with the Shivering Isles Expansion, as well as all the DLC (KoN, Horse Armor, etc, etc). So I decide that one day I want to uninstall Oblivion for now. So I went to "Add or Remove Programs" and uninstalled each part (the expansions and DLC's had their own installer). Then I uninstalled Oblivion, deleted the folder in ProgramFiles\Bethesda Softworks, deleted the folder in "My Games" and called it a day. So today I decide to reinstall Oblivion. This time I just install Oblivion and Shivering Isles. Here's where the issue comes into play. When I go to the launcher and click on "Data Files", all of the previous content shows up, such as the DLC and some mods even though I deleted everything. I've followed the steps on the forum about the clean install. I've looked at the plugins.txt file and there isn't any DLC listed there. It is very strange. If anyone has any advice at all about how I can fix this, I would appreciate it.
DrakeTheDragon
Are you on Vista/Win 7/8 and have the game/Steam installed at the default location, inside program files, or a similarly over-protected system folder? In that case check if there's any files left inside the compatibility folder inside your user files Windows created for you in order to block 3rd party access to program files and redirect all attempts into this virtual mirror location. Or make sure you didn't only remove the files from the mirror back then and left their originals remain untouched in program files all the time. The Windows Explorer is pretending the files would be in program files, while in fact they're inside the mirror location, so you never really know what you just deleted, if you did it through the Explorer or a 3rd party app. Gotta love this UAC. Malak255
My God. You sir, are my hero. For all of those who are wondering, I navigated to %LocalAppData%\VirtualStore and that's where the offending mods were. Again, thanks so much.
DrakeTheDragon
You're welcome. Now I know the folder name of this mirror location again as well. Lost it some years ago as I never had one myself and only ever read about it on a random occasion. It was a pain always having to tell it's hidden somewhere, yet not being able to tell where exactly. Now I know again, win-win.
