mokechoke Posted December 10, 2009 Share Posted December 10, 2009 Hi, Im sorry if i recreated a topic thread but to get to the point this problem has been eating away at me for quite some time so i bought the PC version after loving the xbox one and decided to pick up the game of the year edition and install it and everything works fine including disk 2 (shiviering isles plus knights of the nine) i realized though that i made a mistake and uninstalled everything but now when ever i reinstall oblivion it works with just the original disk but as soon as i install the second disk it crashes as soon as i leave sewers or try to load a game thats outside of starting point Some notes to add-its a new lap top so yes it has great sound and graphics card-when i install the latest patch for oblivion (1.2.416 non expansion one) it crashes on exiting sewer still-regular oblivion without disk 2 of GoTY works fine It would be greatly apreciated if i could get a response thanks :thanks: Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Matoyak Posted December 11, 2009 Share Posted December 11, 2009 It sounds like when you uninstalled you didn't get the thing entirely off of your system...I had the same issue. I ended up doing a complete wipe and install and it worked fine. Also, one issue is that with the GotY edition, you already have the latest patch necessary. If you download the non-expansion patch, you're going against what Bethesda says on the download site, and will have issues. Do you have any mods installed? Have you made sure to enable the expansions in the data files? EDIT: Another thing is...simply because it is a new laptop does not mean it has a good graphics card. Take mine for instance...Brand new as of 2 months ago, and yet it barely passes minimum specs for Oblivion, a 4 year old game. The issue is often that Laptops tend to not have cards specifically made for gaming. That's my personal issue, and I have to run Oblivion at the 640 x 480 resolution to have a chance at a good framerate. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

However, for some reason, Beth put the patch on the SI disk and not the Oblivion. So if you installed just Oblivion, then downloaded the Oblivion patch and installed it before SI. You are borked. That patch interferes with the patch from the SI disk, and the SI patch from the download site also. (not needed for GOTY) To fix it, you will have to reinstall yet again (sorry about that) However, I have an article that takes you through a full uninstall and reinstall, including the proper installation of patches and a few tricks. Basically, if you are going to install I, DO NOT install the Oblivion patch. Finish installing SI, then use the SI patch only - in your case, the patch is included in the GOTY SI disk and will automatically install. mokechoke Posted December 11, 2009 Author Share Posted December 11, 2009 Ok thanks for the tips first off though the patch that I installed was with out the SI or KoTN expansion disc installed, that patch was off the oblivion site for non SI, its to patch up any problems (I know that GoTY comes with latest patch) But what i was trying to say is to see if oblivion would work with the 1.2.416 patch without disk 2 (expansion stuff) installed Second, I have fully uninstalled then reinstalled them both to my understanding and deleted every file dealing with oblivion and that didnt work, so if thats not a full uninstall please let me know what it is Third i can run my oblivion game can run fine on highest video settings with ati mobility radeon hd 4570 (thats my graphics card) so yes its a pretty decent laptop for games a couple more things to add is that yes i have mods but i have deleted them all and tried to reinstall everything, installing dosnt take too long and would really like to get shivering isles to work love that place haha Again thanks for all the help and i hope you guys can help me work through this Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Not sure I understand why you feel the need to not install the second disc, and yet still install the first and the patch that comes on the second disc separately? The game disc already comes with all the patches you need on it. Are you saying that you installed the first disc, then the second, did nothing else, and booted it up? And that after that, when you leave the sewers it'll crash? Without any mods, patches, anything other than the two discs? And then when that crashed, you decided to install the patch? The link http://www.tesnexus.com/articles/article.php?id=240 Has a complete explanation on what is not uninstalled, what can happen if it is not uninstalled, how to properly remove those parts. And then how to reinstall in a way that allows everything to work properly. The information is from over 2 years of experience on my part, and also from suggestions and information provided by others.
