"Well I am sure your theories are quite refined and interesting..."

Tiax pauses and smiles for a short moment.

"But facts are what we need here. If we decide to go after the eight to summon the nith we are already taking big risks"

Tiax turnes to Baba-John.

"But that is ofcourse all up to you. Though I like the theory. It explains much."

"Speak, if you will, and we shall listen." Says Kalmer solemnly, seeming to fade further into view as he speaks. "Any information you can give us - albeit theoretical - will be gratefully heeded. Tell us where you believe the known swords to be, and anything that might aid us in our quest for the others........"

Brushing back her hair to get it out of her face, T'skar looks enthusiastically at the old man, "Master, please tell us all you can of these swords, it seems the fate of the world may rest on them, or at least Bashkher." Looking around she wonders aloud "You seem to have so little furniture, and is always so hot in here?"

Mascor shakes his head. "I don't notice the heat. I was given a potion years ago that made me seem dead. I was not dead. My wife knew this and went everywhere with my coffin trying to find a cure. Then someone stole our baby and she was so distracted she left me. And they buried me. When the potion wore off I was entombed. It took me many years to claw my way out, dirty and ragged and covered in earth and worms. That's where the rumours of undead started. I am not undead. I have never been dead. But the side effects of the potion remain. I have no need for food and drink or rest and I never feel heat and cold. It can make life seem boring."

He goes to the bookcase.

"But it's my research you are here about, not me. There are seven known swords. You have two and you have seen the one in the main museum of Dohoti. There are two others in museums at Ippikander and Memtuz. One sword was lost at Akitaron before the city was destroyed. As you will need to go to Ippikander to find the museum sword I suggest you speak to the authority on Akitaron, a fellow mage called Nikishastra. My learning comes from him and it is better to get it from the source. A seventh sword was lost at sea on a voyage from Golconar and I can tell you of that if you don't already know. I believe an eighth sword is in Zooz itself. I will explain that."

He starts to leaf through a book.

"When the swords were made there would have been swordsmiths in every city. The master of Zooz was by far the best but we have only discovered that over the years. It is highly unlikely it was known at the time. Anyone commissioning swords would go to the nearest. So the person commissioning the swords we are talking of almost certainly lived in Zooz. There is nothing near Zooz so it is not a question of 'or nearby'. We have pieced together that they originally belonged to a small band of knights who were charged with the righting of wrongs. They were sent out from their base presumed to be in Zooz all over the country. However the man who had founded the group remained at home coordinating them. It is inconceivable that he did not have a sword himself. Or herself I should say as the knights were not exclusively male. The movements of the seven known swords have been put together with odd omissions over the years but the eighth, the one that belonged to the founder knight, has never been found. I am certain it is still somewhere in Zooz."

He hands you the book which contains a drawing of the city of Zooz. It is not a good drawing. Your guide book is better.

"Others disagree with me believeing that the founding knight too would have ridden out against evil. They point out that much of the early information on the seven swords is from logs kept by this knight and that he or she would not need to keep track of any sword in their possession. I do not believe it. People have looked in Zooz - I have myself - but Zooz is destroyed every ten years by devastatind floods. It is very hard to see how the sword can have survived. But I am sure it has somehow."

He sighs. "Most others point to the absence of entries for the ninth sword as evidence that these logs were incomplete. And I must say in the end I started to think that myself. But if the ninth sword never existed then I am sure my original view must be correct."

A wry smile crosses his lips.

"So you can collect three more swords and look for those missing and if you are lucky perhaps you can make the ninth sword appear. But you will not be the first to seek the swords known to be lost. Do you know the story of the sword lost here at sea or shall I tell it to you?"

"please tell it to us" mandrake said to him.

then mordred turns to the group. "is it realy neccesary to get the ninthe sword by the way after all we're looking for the sword without a tip and if this ninthe has never existed then how could it lose it's tip? I think we'll have the best chance of succes when we first go after the lost ones then if those are still complete we could collect the rest."

Tiax placed himself at the floor.

"We heared some small rumors about that but it is far from complete let alone accurate. I think you can provide us with a great deal of help on that one..."

"Very well. The sword came into the possession of a perfumier. At that time Golconar produced a special and very secret perfume that gave the owner control over those who smelled the fragrance. It was very expensive and the perfumier alone knew the ingredients. He sold mainly to the lucrative Papred market. Twice a year he would ship the perfume to the capital and he would hire guards and travel with the consignment himself. But the lure of the cargo was so great that one set of guards turned on the merchant and his crew just outside Golconar, killing all but the cabin boy who hid in the hold. But the murderous mercenaries were not good sailors. A sudden storm blew up and the ship sank with all hands, the cargo and the sword. The cabin boy was found alive by a fishing smack en route to Dohoti but knew little other than of the murders. He had been floating on a piece of wood for five days and was nearly done for. But he revived. This was three hundred years ago by the way. The only information we have to go on is that the boat had been sailing for 12 hours towards Papred when they struck and it was only a matter of an hour or so later that the storm sank the vessel. The cabin boy was north west of Dohoti a day from the port. A few intrepid souls have tried to find the wreck - for the cargo or the sword or both. None has succeeded. You would need to find a sea captain with considerable experience of currents and climate around the area to even begin to start."
