The Master Of Zooz

"I believe I am by many thousands of years the oldest mortal human being on Zorlon. Why I have lived so long I do not know. Perhaps I still have a purpose to fulfil. Be that as it may, I practised life magic in El Rhun. My wife was a healer. When they banned women from El Rhun we took a voyage into the unknown and ended in Papred. My children had no magic but were excellent at selling. Within three generations we were the richest and most influential family in Bashkher. Oh, and I invented the name Desai when I saw that everyone here had two names. Wizards in El Rhun are content with just the one."

He grunts at some irritating memory.

"But I could not afford to let my apparent immortality become a subject of speculation. We Desai have always kept a low profile. The Sagrami's on the other hand, whose humble origins are a mere two generations behind them, have achieved their wealth and social position through the most underhand means imaginable. Arminda is typical of her background, rapacious, eaten up with envy if anyone seems to have anything better and obsessed by her appearance. My advice is simple, keep away from her if you can. If you can't, do not approach her. Make it so that she will want to approach you."

He grins at T'skar.

"I do not normally condone lying. But with the Sagrami family, who have no honour in themselves, I can excuse it. But I leave you to concost your own trap. Remember that with anyone, their authority is at its weakest when vanity controls their brain."

"Have you ever seen or heard of a book called 'Dark Portals'? We have a hand written copy, and were wondering if you could shed some light on it and it's eleven chapters, as there Life magic has been outlawed on Tagfier for years." T'skar shows Nikishastra their copy of the book.

"Also, we have been told that Arminda is constantly looking for ways to look younger and something of this nature might be best for us to gain access into the Temple. Is this where her vanity lies or is it perhaps somewhere else?"

"I do not know anythinh about this book. But 11 chapters. There were 10 schools of magic in El Rhun but there was another that tried to establish itself - school of love. As for Arminda, yes. If you can make her believe you can keep her young."

"I think we should try Face's key before we approach Arminder with an 'anti-aging' potion. We may learn all we need from this Temple by sneaking in. It does seem we will need some way of seeing in the dark, though. I can use telekinesis to feel a little way ahead, but it would help to see in the dark in some way. I for one don't want to be missing an eye, or worse."

ooc> If there are no more questions:

ic> Kalmer thanks Nikishastra for his time and information, and the group retire to discuss events.

Turning to T'Skar, he says, "T'Skar, I have a feeling that you are to play an important role in our winning over this Arminda Sagrami. Everyone seems to looking at you knowingly. Perhaps I am taking this the wrong way, but perhaps not. I have an idea: we all dress up as a Lady's entourage, and escort you to The Palace Hotel where we dine, and celebrate your 100th birthday in a very public manner. From there, we go on to the Pink Orchid nightclub, find a nice quiet table, and wait for Arminda to approach you. We lead her to beleive that you hold the secret of eternal youth, and arrange a meeting in more private circumstances - her place!

What do you all think of the idea?"

"I suppose it could work, but I think we would need a very lavish wardrobe, and I know I haven't got the time to 'liberate' that much money. Other than that, I would be very interested in trying it. I think we could even arrange for the dear to meet my 'Apothecary', Aldhelm the Miraculous." T'skar smiles knowingly.

ooc> could you let me have the planned itinerary for the rest of the day. Here are some snippets of info:- It is currently early afternoon. Face will sell you his key at any time. Entering the tunnel during daylight hours is more difficult than at night as the entrance is patrolled while the beach is in use. To go shopping for beach wear or fine gowns would take up the afternoon daylight hours. The top floor of the temple can be visited freely as can the museum (at a price). The temple is close to your lodgings while the museum complex is about 45 minutes away. You will not be able to dine at the Beach Palace without going there to reserve a table. The Palace is 30 mins from your lodging via the shopping district. The night club does not start until 10pm. The time taken to go round the museum will depend on exactly what you do there. The upper floor of the temple would not detain you for more than one hour. Once you are in the lower levels, however you get there, the amount of time you will need is unknowable.

"I think we are in town for a couple of days, so let's not try and do everything at once. We need an audience with Arminder Sagrami to get to the lower levels of the temple, right? Or we could use Face's key, likely at night, which may or may not be more risky. So why don't we check out the Museum first? That way we will know if the Sword of Zooz is there, and whether we can get our hands on it if need be. Then we can plan for the Temple trip tomorrow, however we decide to do it." T'skar suggests.
