And have double-checked the load order using something like BOSS or bben's article here on the forums?

If you are using Vista, or Win7, and installed the game in the default location (not the best place) you will get exactly what you are seeing. Vanilla game works fine, mods don't show up.

For Vista related problems such as UAC, Check here:

http://www.tesnexus.com/articles/article.php?id=262.

Other problems could be the mod needs something else to work, such as OBSE, COBL, The latest patch or something else.

If this isn't your problem, give us the name of a mod that you are having this problem with so we will have something to work with. Preferably a common simple mod, and not a huge game changing mod - save those for after you can get a simple one to work.

I have a set of help files for people who are not computer geeks and are new to mods. They include downloading, extracting (unzipping) installing and activating mods. I have included a simple mod to practice on and instructions for installing and using 7-zip. If you are interested, click on the highlighted link below to be taken to the site where they are kept. I recommend starting with #1 and working your way through them.

If you use them I would appreciate some feedback as to what needs improvement and what works for you.

well, I'm using windows XP, and on game launcher I've cheked the mods...

the mods I'm using are "Augustus_Ebony_Horse_Armor" and "Castle_Seaview"

I try to download the latest patch but appear an error: old file not found, or something like that refering to OblivionLauncher...

:S

but I try bben's set of help, but even the dagger won't appear in the statue on imperial market district..

The test dagger does not require anything else to work - I made it like that on purpose. It should work on any version, whether or not you have any patches or anything else.

Did the mod appear in the mod list (Data) when you started the game?

Did you click on the box to activate it? If there is not an x in the block, the mod is not active and will not show up in the game.

Looking at Castle Seaview, even though it does not specify, some of the features listed lead me to believe that will need both the latest patch and OBSE to work.

From the description of the ebony horse armor: "This is a retexture of the steel plate horse armor that came with the official horse armor plugin. Therefore you will need it to use this mod." Unfortunately, Bethesda policy forbids using even a re-texture of something from one of their DLCs without also having that DLC loaded. So you MUST have the DLC horse armor for it to work.

As for the patch, here is my patch recommendation

If you got your game through a download such as D2D, You have to go to them for any patches. The ones at the official site will not work because of the D2D copy protection. Programs like OBSE will probably not work because of the D2D copy protection. There is a special OBSE for the Steam version though. If you have a pirate version, sorry about your luck. Don't be so cheap, buy the game.

If you have the Game of the Year version, you don't need a patch as long as you have installed Shivering Isles. For some reason, Beth put the Oblivion Patchin the Shivering isles install instead of the Oblivion install.

To find what version you have, look in the lower left corner on the loading screen. If it shows v1.2.0416 you already have the latest patch.

You only need to install the latest patch, v1.2.0416, all of the stuff from earlier patches are included.

If you have Shivering Isles, DO NOT use the Oblivion patch, ONLY use the latest Shivering Isles patch. All of the oblivion stuff is included. There is only one English version SI patch for both US & UK versions.

If you DO NOT have Shivering Isles, use only the latest Oblivion patch for the language version on your original install disk.

Be sure to get your patch from the official Bethesda site where they have FREE patches for every language version, There are 2 English versions, UK & US be sure to get the one that matches your disk.
