synnworld
Do you think it's possible? I am not going to be doing any damage, and that's not what I want to do. I want to use magic to stun, cripple, and control my enemies. I am trying it right now with my main way of doing stuff is Illusion, Alteration, and Mysticism magic. I am using the Lame mod, but I also have Sepreme magika, midas spell, Advanced mage craft, and another magic mod which I can't think of the name right now (only one currently active is lame though). I also have 3 companion mods which will do the melee fighting for me. So do you think playing an Illusion mage is possible? Right now their are barely any spells I find remotely useful in the Illusion school which is pacification. Others either cost too much mana or is a touch spell. jaosals42
Well of course it's possible. Just be sure you have another skill (preferably in your case, a non-magic one) with which you're able to defeat your enemies and that you're good in. Illusion in itself does not kill enemies, and you can only paralyze/demoralize/control them for so long... My suggestion, find that sword and sharpen it, then make your illusion mage.

My mage will simply manipulate, but not destroy or kill.
jaosals42
Question though: Why would you only want to manipulate them, and not kill them as well? It's possible (unlikely but still possible) that there may be a point in which all three of your companions are knocked out at about the same time and the enemy(ies) focus on you... stars2heaven
I hardly ever play a pure mage but I always use illusion. Dont underestimate it's destructive power. A decent size AE of rage type spell in a group of monsters will let you sit back and watch your enemies kill themselves. I find that one to be one of the most handy, even better than the command spells. Especially with large groups. Also, pacify is cheaper than the rest, and its easy to set up a larg AE spell so you can take down one at a time. I dont see why a good mage who focuses on illusion would need anyone really, except for the occasional creature with resistances to your magic. Of course, you will have to kill the loan creature also. Illusion only works really well when there is more than one enemy around.
synnworld
@Matoyak & jaosals42: IT is a simple matter of having something new and a bit more themed. Iv played the game with just about every mage or stealth type character I could think of (I find the games melee a bit dull, well honestly any games melee can really dull me unless it's a game the is basically based on it; MK, tekken and so on.) An Illusion mage was the lasted idea I had in mind, and like stars2heaven said having spells that will literally make the enemy kill themselves or or paralyze them to the point where all they can do is wait for death would really be a fun way of playing. @Matoyak If all three companions are knocked out at once, than I am not doing a good job as an illusion mage. Edit: It was originally meant to a combo of Mysticism, Illusion, and Alteration; but I found that I was mostly using illusion spells in combat, and detect life really does not seem useful to the mage who bends everything to his will. David Brasher
I sometimes like to play utter pacifists that hate to kill things. Killing beasts and monsters is bad, but killing a person really makes them feel bad. You can use the CS to make a tiny mod that provides you with really cheap and powerful pacifist spells. Long-lasting drain strength is as good as paralyzation. Powerful damage strength does the same thing, but might be considered inhumane. Paralyze is good, pacification is good. Demoralize and turn undead are not as good as some others, but could be useful. Invisibility is really good. If you are not seen, then you might be able to accomplish your mission objectives without fighting. The character you are playing is a bit different, but I think if you made a mod with cheap and powerful custom illusion spells, it could make your experience more enjoyable. Stuff like: Death's grasp (An illusion that makes an enemy think they have dead for the next XX hours, Distortions (imbalances all enemies), and a few others. But I am not really that good of a modder; well I haven't even practiced modding in a while actually. I would also what to have new animations for the spells which is something I know I can't do.
