mongerman
Hi guys. This is my first oblivion game, and I'm playing with the following game changing mods 1) OOO2) All +5 attribute mdifier3) stealth overhaul4) race rebalancing mod Together with some aesthetic mods and DLC content. My first character is as follows. I want him to be a fighter/mage, with sneaking thrown in Race: Dark elfbirth sign: magespecialization: magicattributes : strength and intelligenceMajor skills 1. blade2. sneak3. destruction4. conjuration5. illusion6. restoration7. light armor Does this look fine? I want blocking as well but is it ok to leave it as a minor if I constantly block and counterattack? TIA
Megatarius
Add Block. You'll be sorry if you don't, as it will be really weak at first. OOO is hard. You will die a lot. Of course, with Destruction, maybe not. But I would ask you, what's the point of Blade if you can always attack from a distance? That's just me though. I would also say, swap out Restoration for Alchemy. You can make potions that will earn you money with that. Of course, you may want the instant healing of restoration combined with regenerating magicka if you don't have Block. Just something to consider. Also, you can change your stats at any time by typing Showclassmenu in the console. If you do this, it will reset all your skills to the beginning again, so do it wisely. I do it a lot to change characters into new characters and start new games without going through Sewers or Arriving by Ship. Also, let me take this opportunity to recommend two mods that will transform your game. Better Music System and 3rd Person Animations in 1st Person View. It may not seem like much now, but think about it again after the 100th time a mudcrab starts the Battle Music and ruins the Explore Music right at the good part, and then after the "fight" it starts over again! mongerman
Thanks. I've looked up the mods you recommanded and will be installing them. SO i should go Race: Dark elfbirth sign: magespecialization: magicattributes : strength and intelligenceMajor skills 1. blade2. sneak3. destruction4. conjuration5. illusion6. restoration7. block Right? I plan to raise str and end at every level, and alternate between int and wis.
Megatarius
One other thing I thought of: Destruction, combined with regenerating Magicka basically results in endless ammo for fireballs and such. If you want that, cool, it will give you an edge in the harder dungeons. Also, with Better Music System: Unless he's upgraded since I last spoke with him, the author of that mod has a better version outside this site. That version allows you to not only make your own playlists, but you can actually turn off battle music entirely in the .ini. I love that feature personally, but some people like having Battle Music. What makes Better Music System so good is, if you like Battle Music you have a lot of options with how it's handled. There are some really cool extra music mods on this site too. Search Matti Palaanen (spelling might be off), and Doctor Eternal. They have some really cool music that compliments the regular music. Matti's track "Burn them Down" is spot on perfect for the Oblivion Realms Playlist in Better Music System. As for whether your character is right or not, ultimately you're playing style will determine that of course. The character you have now will give you lots of up close sword fighting, as well as good distance attacks as well. Everything has drawbacks and benefits. If you're like me, you'll have four or five different kinds of characters going at once within a month. Good luck!
jaosals42
Choose either destruction or conjuration in my opinion. Both are ways of offense, so it kinda takes away from your fighting skills. Also, remove sneak and replace it with something that'll help you more in the long run like armorer. The faster you can get master level on armorer, the better for you, and having it as a major skill is going to give it a good initial boost. But I would ask you, what's the point of Blade if you can always attack from a distance? That's just me though. Blade or blunt is good, IMO. It's a good solution to deal with those enemies that end up getting it your face. Either use blunt, or don't change blade at all. Distance-ranged weapons/powers won't help you when the enemy gets in your face. Restoration or alchemy is good. You can either restore yourself with potions that you make or healing spells you acquire. It's up to you mostly with that decision. Illusion is also good, though mysticism might help as well. You can soul trap or detect nearby enemies through walls with mysticism, or paralyze enemies approaching you and light-up dark areas with illusion. Again, this is mostly your choice.
