ptbptb
OK, the 'level up' system in Oblivion is a bit odd. There are already a number of tweaks, patches and replacements available but don't remember seeing anything quite like what I'm going to propose. Short version: Allow players to change between classes, even to/from custom classes. Consequences: Theoretically this would make the game somewhat easier (yes, I know there's a difficulty slider ;)). It would also encourage players to play to their character's strengths instead of to their character's weaknesses*. Details: Previous class specific bonuses and abilities would be removed, new class specific bonuses and abilities would be added. New level would be based on skill levels accumulated in the new major skills - thus they can (and quite often would) find themselves going down in level. Ability bonuses gained with previous level ups would not be lost. Combined with the previous point this makes it more likely that characters will reach all 100 ability level without having to use mods like All +5 Attribute Modifiers. I would suggest combining this with mods that make clothing/weapon choice more significant (e.g. Stealth Overhaul to stop thieves sneaking in full plate mail and something to encourage magic centred classes to use light, or no, armour. Monks might have penalties on melee weapon use, healers may have penalties on bladed weapons. Restrictions: I think we'd want to discourage people from switching at the drop of a hat so I would suggest only allowing class change when at least five levels have been gained from the last class change. Sound interesting? Would it be 'doable' or are there technical flaws to the idea? * The way the dangers 'level up' in Oblivion encourages players to be as strong in non-class skills as possible. e.g. Fighters who become very good spell casters will not gain levels from their magic skill increases and hence levelled monsters will be weaker against them than they would be against mages with equally strong magic skills. grmblf
Better use this one and configure it as you like: nGCD or simply forget about levelling and play your character. It's not possible to change class with this mod but it makes leveling much less annoying so you don't need this kind of tricks, simply if your character is well made s/he will survive, otherwise s/he won't :P
grmblf
I forgot, I made a script for timelord regeneration effect that stores player's skills and stats before opening the race menu, you could use the same script to show class menu instead. You have to store all the player's stats because they're reset if you acces one of those menus. Here's a link to the post: LINK. Feel free to use it and modify as you see it fits (you or whoever is taking this request).
