Alton Il. mod --- crash on dialogue

I’m not posting this from home, so I don’t have access to my game computer… if there are questions about my mod load order, hardware, etc., I’ll answer them later when I am back at home

I’m trying to play ‘Alton IL’ (warning --- to describe my problem, there will be spoilers for Alton IL mod ahead).

(SPOILERS)

I accepted the quest to clear out the super mutants from Old Godfrey. After I finish that, I am told I need to ‘rescue captives’ from the super mutant camp to complete the Godfrey quest. I go to the camp, kill the mutants and enter the shack to free the captive. He thanks me and runs off. When I leave the cabin, it’s time for another one of these ‘forced encounters’ with the Plague people where my player character can’t move and they capture me and take me back to their base, but the game always crashes at that spot. I’ve tried going back to an earlier save and replaying the whole mutant camp encounter with the same result.

I’ve had better luck with FO3 almost never crashing after I followed some advice on this and the steam community in terms of getting the game to behave, but I can’t figure out how to get past this one crash. I’m not using auto save or save on rest, etc. and only have a couple of other mods installed (like Marts Mutant Mods) and I've tried it with those mods off and on with the same result. I know Alton is a mod with some problems -- but this is just different from the other problems ---- the mod lets the big bad guy deliver his speech, then his minion comes over and whacks me in the face with his baseball bat, the screen goes black and I hear the sound of my equipment vanishing and then the game shuts off and I get that familiar window saying that Fallout 3 has crashed and Windows is looking for a solution to all of my life’s problems.

I suppose I could wander off and do something else, but I’d at least try to get a little further on Alton’s main quest before giving up. Any good advice? Thanks in advance.

I don't know if anyone is following this topic, but thought I would update my results.

I'm usung Windows 7 64 bit with an Nvidia 650 card and I don't remember what processor (I'm on my laptop right now), so it seems that Fallout 3 does not like my set up --- which is too bad, but probably not unsurmountable.

I fixed the original problem by following these instructions: http://steamcommunity.com/app/22370/discussions/0/828937546147175081/?l=german

With good results... not 100%, bust still, better than before. I rearranged my Mod load order and that helped a lot, but a day or two later, FO3 was back to not getting past start again. I tried the same fixes, and tested after each fix and discovered that it was fixed after I ran the unofficial patch again.

I think FO3 gets broken every time I use the FO3 GECK. Can anyone confirm this?
