Skike0083
I would like to create my own world revamp for oblivion.. .I don't want it to have anything to do with Cyrodiil, but i don't know how to clear out all of Cyrodiil without causing a whole mess of other problems. I would like to keep the meshes and textures the game has but place everything myself.. .I don't need someone to hold my hand throughout the process, but i need a place to start.. .Should i create my own ESM or maybe start a new world space and delete the old one? I have no clue.Any tips/walkthroughs/assistance would be wonderful
David Brasher
I don't think your mod will be very popular. People do not want to delete Cyrodiil. I suggest that you start a new Worldspace and have a portal between your world and Cyrodiil. That way people can go enjoy your whole new world, but still have the other one. From the modding perspective, it would take forever to go through and delete everything in Cyrodiil, because the default for an unmodded cell is the vanilla Oblivion cell. You would have to go mod every single cell in the original game and mod it to make there be nothing there, or your stuff there. Your mod would have to be very last in their load orders. It would be such a huge mod that many people could not download it. So I suggest you make a whole new worldspace and recommend that the gamers start a new character and go to your world immediately and never return to Cyrodiil with that character. Usually, if you're just wanting to make your own worldspace, it's usually easier to just make it a new worldspace that you can enter through a spell usage or some other portal. The main reason for this being that you don't have to take the time to re-do all the chargen stuff, or deal with how your mod is incompatible with nearly everything else out there. By having the whole vanilla world still intact, you also have the added benefit of being able to go and look at how things are put together, scripted, or setup (something that even those esteemed "master" modders would not want to be without). You can still create your own world, and make your own quests, or whatever you want without it having any impact of the rest of the game.Example Example2 *both improperly called total conversions* That said, if you really want to have your own world, setup your own chargen, and not have the ability to go back and forth between the two worlds with the same character, then what you are wanting to do is what is called a Total Conversion. A total conversion is something that aims to create an almost entirely new game to play, but maintains most of the systems people are already familiar with. For Oblivion, most true TCs never went anywhere due to the vast amount of work they require just in being able to test something. Actually, I don't think there are any currently available that managed to get anywhere past the initial stages. To make a total conversion, it's usually a good idea to try and find a blank.esm with all those important definitions already present. I havn't really looked into it myself, but you might want to try:http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2557There was another one somewhere, but I can't seem to find it. The question of .esm or .esp really depends on the size of the world you are using, and how it is used. For anything 4 quads or smaller which is not a TC, .esp format is perfectly fine for a release version and can help avoid many of the more serious landscape issues. For larger, a .esm is usually best, except in those cases where it can't be used due to conflicts. Any true TC would also need to be a .esm file. Although that is the case, while working on the mod, the .esm format can make several things, like heightmap work, region generation, less prone to crashing, and give you a way to revert back to an earlier version of a cell or form without having to restore a backup or attempt to undo the changes. This is a rather important note since region generation has a nasty habit of duplicating objects placed in cells, if those same cells are generated as part of another region after saving. You can still release as a .esp, but the .esm version does have some advantages.
Skike0083
I dont know if i care that others would want to play my world or not. Especially since it will be full of inside jokes and personas of people close to me. But these are all valid points. Ive been adding on to the oblivion/morrowind world for years now, never being satisfied with actually being connected to the real game. I do have years to blow on this since it will basically be a hobby place anyways. I dont really mind if other ppls mods wont work either, as long as i can use meshes and textures for items. Ill look into the references i've been given when i have more time. Thanks and keep it comin!
Skike0083
I have decided to make my own world sake for simplicity sake, and so people will stop getting angry at me.. . The fact that hardly any total conversions exist seems to be a sore subject hehe.. . Anyways i was hoping for some tips or references, im very bad at searching forums and actually finding important info.. . Ive never created a new world space myself
nosoulking
I do have a question for your new world space. Do you plan on using the oblivion gates and creating new oblivion worlds through the oblivion gates?
stormwarrior
What do you mean that theres no Tc's that exist? Just look at Nehrim: http://www.moddb.com/mods/nehrim-at-fates-edge
ImmokTheSlayer
He said there are almost none that make it past the initial stages. I've attempted a couple TCs, and if you want advice I'd say to start smaller, as except in a few isolated occasions they turn out to be a waste of time, no offense. If you want help beginning a new world use this tutorial I used called World Building 101: http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index...rldBuilding_101 . Good luck nonetheless friend.
