[req]nude Mod

I guess there's somewhat of a point to it in Morrowind, since the default bodies are so horribly ugly, and the underwear even uglier (clipping errors, etc). Of course there were also the immature kids who went crazy over a little polygonal nudity (and not even high-poly and good looking!). I don't have some moral outrage over it or anything, it just seems a bit silly to get all excited over it. I mean, if you're downloading mods, you obviously have internet access... so why settle for naked low-poly rpg characters when you can get all the high-quality porn you could ever want?

Mankind has an innate desire to put porn in everything.

That being said, I want removable underwear in Oblivion.

I will settle for all the characters going commando.

I don't know...I always felt it was kind of weird to be butt naked under armor. Think of the chafing.

Besides, seeing a naked male orc is not number one on my to do list right now.

I used the Better Bodies mod myself and it did add more realism to the game. Sure some people get a tweak out of looking at the exposed pixel parts but what do I, or anyone else care about those people. They're not my problem and you shouldn't consider them yours either.

One thing I didn't like about Better Bodies that should be updated on an Oblivian version is the fact all the bodies were of the same physical fitness level. I want to see some naked bodies that are sagging and old or overweight, some that are muscular or fit, and some that are sickly skinny.

The problem with different sized bodies is it's next to impossible to make generic clothing/armor for them.

In this case, it really IS "one size fits all".

They even made the Argonian and Khajiit races much more "human" like in Oblivian to avoid the issues of having to make spcial versions of some items for them too.

Having said that, I will keep an eye out for better bodies as well... :)

Is it not possible to just stretch the armor in the same way as the faces, to fit different shapes?

Sure, but there is no way to guarantee that the stretched stuff will look even remotely correct as you'd be stretching the clothing/armor meshes and therefore the textures applied to those clothing meshes in somewhat unpredictable ways.

Also, the body itself would likely poke through the clothing/armor meshes and look bad (called clipping).

Last, this way is WAY, WAY, WAY easier to code. 2 body models (male/female) and then just scale to the correct size for each race with the exception of the heads, hands and tails on the beast races (just like early Star Trek aliens... ;) ). This ensures that any wearable item on any player or NPC will still look correct on any other with nothing more than a scaler applied to size it correctly for them.

As far as "better bodies" goes, yah, I do see some room for improvement on the "stock" bodies, but as they are far better than what was in Morrorwind, there isn't such a pressing NEED for them as there was then.

I'm guessing, there will be a lot of head/face mesh and texture replacement mods as well as the "nude" body texture mods showing up at the download sites. I'm sure one or more better bodies mods will eventualy be done but given the setup in Oblivian, it may be that just a single mesh has to be updated to affect all male and another to affect all female humanoids in the game.

Ahhhhhhh, the controversy...I love it. Its really funny how stuff like this can bring so much discussion. Yes, I agree, there needs to be variety in the bodies---it would make it so much more immersive.

Now this is something to think about:

Is there a way to program a scalar mod into this game? I may be able to help I am not sure what it would exactly entitle, but I am assuming it is C++. I definitely think the whole nude part is funny and all and a little unessesary but the scalar idea for the body types is right on the money. Depending on the level of what it would take and if it is possible due to what impacts the modifications would entitle, maybe have the bodies be scalar, the clothes be re-programmed to expand to the adjustments, but also fix the clipping by programming in some polygon collision detection and simulate wrinkles in the clothing using some gravity-based physics and other things that would very likely make the whole idea a nightmare when it came to extra data entry due to material strengths and attributes and things such as that. Maybe this is why it didnt happen. Maybe they possibly considered or even made it but trashed the idea for performance over quality for the general non poweruser gamers. Who knows? Either way, if it is possible, which I am very sceptical of--having this level of rendering capable for the clothing and the relation it had with the bodies would solve the clipping due to scaling (I think) and make the gameplay experience be transcending.

I still think its funny as hell though w/ the whole nude mod and that is basically what I wanted to come here to say but when I saw that it really made me realize how generalized everyone was in the game they should really release some sort of mod for that to make it better.

It'd be quite nice if you could wear clothes under your armor. I'm not to keen on taking off my leather cuirass to find i have no under shirt on, not sure why but i'd like it more.

It's not quite relevant to this thread except that to have layered clothes coded in would allow for underwear to be added more easily.

Hehehe... Ohhh... Magic undies! What might they do?

It seemed like morrowind allowed a bit more layering. I remember being able to wear robes over armor and shirts and pants under armor.

I'm guessing they decided that you could wear too many magical items at once that way. So rather then try to somehow limit the number of magic items, they simply limited the total number of items that can be worn simultaneously. I also note that Armor itself even has fewer parts than it did in Morrowind. No pauldrons, etc...

Again, fewer items that can be imbued with magic, simplifies the armor class calculation and makes it easier to collect the complete set. (Is there a Mythril shield? Can't seem to find one ;) )

Essentially what you're talking about here is cloth physics - use a scalar value to change the size of the clothes, and let the physics determine how it drapes on your body. They've already mentioned this, and that it takes and unbelieveable amount of processing power to handle it - you have to account for the gravitational effect on every part of the piece of clothing at any given time, not to mention how light reflects off it (otherwise you don't actually see the folds in the clothing). I suppose the load would be lighter with it just affecting worn clothing, but I imagine the cost associated with coding/buying a cloth physics engine, weighted against the effect on gameplay (namely, how much it affects sales) is rather disproportionate for the time being (namely, it'll take too long or cost too much). However, when dedicated physics processors become the norm in gaming systems, I expect it won't be too long before cloth physics becomes commonplace.

However, I would rather see their efforts invested elsewhere, such as improving dialogue and story, different styles of fighting, more negotiation options, improving AI, a greater variety of wildlife (perhaps simulate an actual food chain?)
