Hertha
I ave just purchased a copy of Oblivion  , but the game refuses to run. It checks out my system, and assigns it the Medium Quality and loads the Autoplay menu, but when I click play it loads a small window (as it does with FO3 before going fulscreen) but a second later XP throws out one of their errors "This Application has encountered an error and needs to exit/shut down". I need some help with this, and I didn't want to look throgh 256 pages to find someone that already had this problem. Do I need to install a patch or something? Help is badly needed. You should install the official patcheshttp://www.elderscrolls.com/downloads/updates_patches.htm You should have installed to somewhere like C:\Games\Oblivion (not to the default directory) It is worth checking Windom Earle's Oblivion Crash Prevention Systemhttp://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22282(You will need Oblivion Script Extender installed first)http://obse.silverlock.org/ Unfortunately that may still not solve your crash. Check those out first though.
bben46
If you are only installing the game, with no mods and using the CD in your cd drive, then it should 'Just work'. Here is a link to a site that will test your system and make recommendations on whether it will play a particular game or not.http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/referrer/srtest And here are the official requirements from the Bethesda site Recommended: * 3 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor * 1 GB System RAM * ATI X800 series, NVIDIA GeForce 6800 series, or higher video card Minimum System Requirements: * Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows XP 64-bit * 512MB System RAM * 2 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor * 128MB Direct3D compatible video card * and DirectX 9.0 compatible driver; * 8x DVD-ROM drive * 4.6 GB free hard disk space * DirectX 9.0c (included) * DirectX 8.1 compatible sound card * Keyboard, Mouse Note that the recommended requirements are much higher then the minimum requirements. And that this is several years old. There have been 2 new generations of video cards since the list was made. And I would not consider playing on Win 2000.
