Fallout 3 1.7 Patch Issues?

Okay, before I start, I would like to give you all a bit of backstory on this:

I finally found Fallout 3 today in my games collection, and decided that the first mod that I would install would be the RTS Settler mod. The Settler mod requires FOSE to function, and FOSE in turn requires the latest Fallout 3 patch.

Therein lies my problem.

I have installed the 1.7 patch, and it gives me this error:

"The ordinal 5360 could not be located in the dynamic link library xlive.dll"

Apparently it's a problem with Games for Windows, and one of the solutions is to update it, except the stupid thing will not update. :wallbash:

So now I am just sitting here, looking longingly at that tiny Vault-Tec mascot on my desktop..

Please help me out party people!

Using fake xlive dll should help you with that. In fallout mod manager use install tweaker and tick use fake xlivedll

Sorry to sound like an idiot, but is that a file you can download, or do I have to make a fake one myself?

EDIT: Oh! Hah! I found it, on the Nexus even! I will try this right away!

All right, I tried it. I installed FOMM, disabled the settler mod, used the fake DLL tweaker, and clicked "Launch FOSE". It ran through the command prompt thing as usual with FOSE startup, and then it freaking errored out on me.

I don't have the ordinal problem anymore, but it still doesn't let me play my game.

patch 1.7 = :drag:

reinstalle the game and use 1.6... much better and works fine

The problem with that is that FOSE wants the latest patch, which is 1.7. I tried it with 1.6, but it still wanted 1.7.

Download (Microsoft Games For Windows - Live) ,install then use auto updater this will download (Microsoft Games For Windows - Live Redistributable) it may or may not download (Redistributable) becuase it may do everthing for you in the link below , then try installing the fake live dll file again , but first try it without it this may fix everthing, Microsoft Games For Windows - Live need to be installed for fallout 3 to work.

here >>> http://www.microsoft.com/games/en-US/index.aspx

also try this out Games for Windows LIVE Disabler

This program allows you to do the following to Games for Windows LIVE in Fallout 3:

* Stop Games for Windows LIVE from running in Fallout 3 and prevent its dll files from loading which

reduces the time it takes for Fallout 3 to startup.

* Remove the "LIVE" button at the main menu.

* Allow you to bind the "Home" key to whatever action you want.

* Allow you to move all of your DLC's out of their "hidden" G4WL folder and into your Fallout 3 folder.

I ran the GFWL installer, it installed, and then it wanted to do updates.

I hit OK for the updates, and then it takes me to this page: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/960554

It's a vicious freaking cycle!

Also, somehow, I did get it to work a few times, with FOSE, FOMM, and a .dll file that I had downloaded, but it would be like one time I would run it through FOSE, and it would work, then the next time I'd run it through FOSE, it would CTD on startup, but run through FOMM just fine, and vice versa.

I swear, if I could backhand Microsoft, I would. They need to leave their shite programs off of my Fallout!
