SeraphimRogue
Avast to who ever reads this thread. I have wanted to do a survey and analysis. I want to know which the the 3D Suites do you prefer and why? Blender or 3DS Max If you prefer Maya or lightwave a brief explanation would be nice. :D
AzirAphale001
3ds Max is probably the better program, but Blender is free, so for me there's really no contest.
pablo88
Maya because that's what I first learned on. Max close second or equal because of power and flexibility it is more of an industry standard but from what I know pros can come with either Maya or Max, it doesn't matter. Both are very powerful and industry-level modeling/animation/etc programs. I think ZBrush should also be mentioned, that's where a great number of character models can be made. IMO ZBrush is best for character creation with high LODs being used.
SeraphimRogue
I don't know hey the new blender 2.5 series is looking good and 2.6 will be released and I'll be quite happy, as the new blender has alot more simulations such as smoke generation cloud creation etc. . . Dhilar
If you are a student, then you are allowed to get a copy of Autodesk's "Education Suite for Entertainment Creation". It contains 3ds Max, Maya, Softimage, Mudbux, Motionbuilder and SketchBook Pro. The software package doesn't cost much. You can use it only for non-commercial purposes! http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index...amp;id=13395078
LegoManIAm94
I do not use those programs but Blender is free and 3DS cost thousands of dollars.
zprospero
Between the two Blender because it's free, but if I had the moneyI'd go with 3DS because Blender's interface is so unfriendly. Personally, though, I use a program called Anim8or (Link)for all of my actually meshing. Then I use Blender fortexturing, collision, and conversion to .nif files. Learning how to do only that in Blender is a lot easier. Anim8or is free, like Blender, but has a much simpler, easier to learn interface. It's nowhere near as full featured as Blender, but if you need a programto start out with that will actually let you get some work done without staringat the screen, crying, saying "All I want to do is make a sphere! All I need isa button with a circle on it! That's all!", then Anim8or's a good bet. (That part about the sphere is true. I didn't cry... much.)
