your full modlist would be more helpful ;)

try to use boss: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=20516

and this mod manager (not the original oblivion launcher): http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2097

oh and just to be sure, install this: http://obse.silverlock.org/

some mods require obse to function properly, so it's a good thing to have it.

don't forget to carefuly read all the installation instructions.

I have put things in the best order based on all the readme files. I still crash sometimes on exit and fast traveling. I was using the Akatosh mount but it would crash when I was near a town and tried to land. :confused:

yeah, the good old occasional crash ;) i'm not sure if someone gonna share a cure for that, if not, rest assured that oblivion will crash now and then. my game also crashes after a certain amount of area transistions. seems to me like this game is loosing bits of information each time a new area is loading, right until this pile of lost bits and pieces becomes big enough to cause a ctd error. well, this is my unsophisticated interpretation so far.

if your game still crashes every time you're trying to enter a specific area as mentioned in your initial post, then it's a different kind of problem.

Mine hasn't for quite a while, although Windom Earle's Oblivion Crash Prevention System has twice saved it from crashing. Make sure that you don't use <ALT>+<TAB> to switch between Oblivion and anything else. Shut down unnecessary background tasks (use Game Booster), programs that pop-up windows (Google Talk, etc.) and, if you're willing to risk it, programs that do low-level disk access stuff (anti-virus s/w). If you are using the Unofficial Patches

* Unofficial Oblivion Patch

* Unofficial Oblivion Patch Hotfix v323a

* Unofficial Shivering Isles Patch

* Unofficial Official Mods Patch

then you may find it helps to deactivate them then reactivate them (make sure you fix the load order afterwards if necessary).

the only thing i haven't tried yet was deactivating and reactivating the unofficial patches. i'm quite far into the game and would like to know whether this reapplying might cause serious (gamebreaking) issues or am i completely safe in doing this.

I don't know if I can give an absolute guarantee, but (especially if you use .omod versions as often as possible) I don't think it's at all likely to cause problems. Just remember to fix the load order afterwards if required.

My theory is that, particularly if you have a whole lot of mods installed, there are likely to be minor conflicts between mods and deactivating/reactivating the unofficial patches may restore the more 'stable' baseline.

It's just a theory though. I was having lots of crashes, particularly on area transitions, and the two changes I made were a) stopping alt-tabbing and b) de/re-activating the Unofficial Oblivion Patch (and Unofficial Oblivion Patch Hotfix). It may be that b) was irrelevant and a) did all the work, there's no way to tell now.
