Console isn't workin

YEah... i'm pretty noob at this, so could someone tell me exactly how i can get the console summoned? i just installed the game and right now i'm just outside 101 and i want to know how to use the console first before playing out the game (i play this game on 360 with a friend, so i'm not that new to the game itself).

To access the console, use the backquote key (`) while in-game (Unpaused). The backquote key shifts to tilde (~) on US keyboards, and the not symbol (¬) on UK keyboards. Other keyboards will differ, but the key is usually to the left of 1, and just under the Escape key (Esc) The HUD will disappear and you will get a prompt (|) in the lower left corner of the screen where you can type-in code(s).

 

* The left side of the console might not be visible if you are not using a widescreen display.

* The key is the top left key under escape, on non-US keyboards. (Example: § or ½ on Scandinavian (Swedish, Danish, Norwegian etc), circumflex (^) on German keyboards, ² on French ones, \ or | on Italian Keybooards.)

I've tried that: nothing happens. I've heard of the console from L4D and other steam games, but the wierd thing is that id doesn't pup up when i hit it this time: just sits there awaiting me to move around to smash the next thing in the face with my bat. is there something else i should know about the console before i can get it to work? it says on the title block 1.0.0.4 (i think it's 4)

also , the console may be disabled in the fallout.ini file. There is a setting called "bAllowConsole" in the ini file, which must be set to 1. As far as I know, this is the default, but maybe some installations of Fallout have it set to 0.

 

you will need to change it back to 1 edit the ini file with notepad :)

Okay, here we go: had to combine the Vista mod with the hat. But one thing that bothers me: what is a faster way to exit the console? and how can i get the windows live login to work again? i've lost a bit of progress after loosing that feature.

Ok, I'm here to put in some info.

 

I've done some research. (5 mins last night on google) Apparently if you are running Fallout 3 on a laptop (me for example), the software driver for the touchpad causes the ~ button to not work.

 

I'm going to try the follow in order.

 

1. Edit the .ini file.

2. Install the remap mod.

3. Delete the driver.

Oh wow, that's exactly what i needed to know. Thanks so much for explaining my situation (Aha! I knew i wasn't in Crazyland!). Now that i've got it working now, this problem has been resolved, but that last bit of information really helped a lot with tackling the issue. It never occured to me that the touchpad would do something like that. Thanks a lot Dregor.
