Outcast!

Okay, so Outcast may not be a Classic / Retro game in the conventional sense of the term, but its a game that struggles to run on Windows XP, so I reckon its old enough to get away with it. I dunno if anyone has played it (I remember reviews of the time giving it pretty terrible scores) but Holy Cow, is it a great game?! Yes. Yes it is.

Now I defy anyone to play it and shrug it off for being linear, poorly written or looking ugly. But, if you do so, RE-install it, plug some headphones in and just run around for a while! The sound effects are the best I've heard in a game - perhaps even better than Half-Life 2 in terms of atmosphere. Perhaps.

This wasn't going to be an "OMG Outca5t r0xx0rs j00r l4me n00b g4m3s" post, so I'll stop acting like some kind of marketer for Infogrames and just say this: has anyone played it? If so, does anyone detect any Morrowind-style atmosphere within the sound? The Morrowind music score was so calming (well, the non-battle music anyway :P ) that I now have it on CD. The same with Outcast. I dunno really where I was going with this, actually. I just replayed Outcast, and I felt compelled to write this.

Don't blame me, the game told me to write it...

EDIT: Spelling. So I'm a perfectionist.

I agree with you. Outcast was a very good game, and I loved it.

Can't understand why it got terrible reviews. It had a fantastic atmosphere.

I might add thatg I also love the old "Might and Magic" games. I played from

volum 6 to the last, volum 9.

Shot it was a great game. Alot of New games these days don't have the indepth puzzle and substance it had.

But Half Life 2 owns it every way!

Yes yes , it was good and I hoped for an Outcast 2 . Memories ,memories , what do you want ?
