Anubis Zombie Posted December 27, 2009 Share Posted December 27, 2009 If you've ever wonder why there are many places called bases and fortification yet when you get there there is no fort. Just some building with some sandbags laying around. Well wonder no more I have your answer. It's because too jive real world fortification principles with the game engine, in a manner which the bots can use, requires building, loading, testing, demolition, rebuilding, loading, testing...... This is about the fifth rebuild and I see atleast one more after completion and navmeshing bot testing. Sofar I'm happy with the results of two weeks of 12+hours a day on this thing, alot of that is research though. Well fear not friends. After much research in the Arlington Library the Wasteland Messiah has found the solution too all the wasteland's problems. Apparently everytime society crumbles it's rebuilt by feudal war lords and apparently to be a feudal war lord you need peasants, and army, AND a CASTLE. I'm hoping too narrow it out in the Bot testing phase. In the proof of concept testing phase this was about as narrow as I could make the ports and still have the bots fire out the holes. Those ports were made out of sand bags and I'm hoping too narrow out the ports now that they are concrete. The original plan was too put the farm and brahmin pin in this courtyard with services on the mid deck and houses on the top deck, but with the problem's I'm having navmeshing the carrier deck its looking like the entire Settlement is gonna be in the courtyard. Unless I can fix the deck navmesh issue with a false floor. This is where the stairs up to the carrier deck will be located. The kings keep will hold all the tools of regency, a great hall for the throne and the warriors too feast and the king too hold court. A head steward too manage the court, personal bath attendents, a royal guard seperate and distinct from the other soldiers, a maid or two. It's gonna really be something spectacular on the inside. The master control room for all the automated defenses. I have some other assorted ideas for automated defenses, getting the flamer nossle to work will be step #1 and the others will be easy if that can be done. Imma finish the layout before I go off learning how to make that stuff. I figure at some point imma havta learn how too model too reduce the number of peices in the castle for proccessing speed, but that's WAAAYYYY off. I would like too incorporate this into other largermods that make the waste a more dangerous place, Like Ultimate War or Zombie Apocolypse. Nothing ingame now justifies such a large base. Eventually it'll grow into its own sub faction with outpost in the waste. I was also thinking about adding some splashes of the fort too places like Big Town, Areufu, Cannteberry Commons, Oasis. Agatha is DEFFINANTLY getting a gate house fort and some guards. Gotta keep that old lady safe she make good music. The outpost, and spreading influence into the towns will all be quest related. You will build a fiefdom one town at a time. Anyway that's all WAY off in the future. The immediate project is the layout of the HQ fort. The construction of which I hope too make quest related so you build it one section at a time and have too recruit ppl and gather materials too do it, hoping too find some help in RTS for that, cept have it all scripted so you don't havta *ban me* with the layout, just tell'm too build. Looks like they are gonna havta offer pretty much no cover to make it work for the bots. ba humbug Their use of the ports is real dodgy, they'll squat down and find th hole for a second and use it fine then they'll lose it all of a sudden and wander around all stupid tryin too walk through the wall. Looks like this is gonna be the largest town in all the waste:) I'd also like too thank Ignacy Order for agreeing too do the faction work and to DantheGeek for offering too do the bunker work. Hopefully in a week or so things will be to a point where they can start their work and the first stage of the Feudal Warlord/Castle mod for Fallout will be complete and the hard part of stage 2 can begin of faction related quest making and figuring out how too have the castle built in game through quest completion.
