can't use my pause game screen

for some reason jus now my pause menu will not work. out of all the options that I can use all I can click on is MCM. evryother one that I click just causes the screen to brighten and the icons to light up and then it just goes back to a darker shade. how can this be fixed because I really don't wana have to do a full reinstall.
