xXMorienXx
I recently started playing oblivion again after about a year and decided to uninstall all my old mods and install new ones for a more efficient setup, but now every time i try to start oblivion it crashes to desktop, right before Bethesda's logo comes onscreen Short of deactivating all my mods and re-activating them one at a time and starting oblivion each time, is there a better way to fix this? I'm using OBMM and BOSS also i tried to post my load order but I'm not sure how to do it if that would help? PLEASE HELP :wallbash:

LegoManIAm94
Does this happen when you put your disk in and your computer then it restarts. Then try to uninstall your disk drive then restart your computer and log in to your account then once the disk drive reinstalls try putting oblivion in and see if it works. To uninstall your disk drive for windows XP click start, control panel, performance and maintenance, system, hardware, device manager, dvd/cd rom drives, then right click it then click uninstall. BE CAREFUL THAT YOU DO NOT UNINSTALL ANYTHING ELSE SUCH AS YOUR MONITOR
theuseless
This could be completely unrelated, but I have an nVidea graphix card (one that isn't listed as supported). My game ctd's at that point no matter what unless I hit the spacebar, advancing it to the loading screen manually. Legoman has a good point as well. Sometimes you need to make a fresh install (or copy your clean Data folder). Once you have a clean, working install you should copy the contents of your bethesda/oblivion/data foler (just the stuff in the data folder) and save that somewhere safe on your hard drive. That way you have a clean, unmodded state save. I copy the data folder (in its entirety) to a "saves" folder on my hard drive for each charicter I play, swapping out data folders for different saves. You first need to start with a clean install of Oblivion. Then install the mods that you want 1 at a time. As each mod installs, it might or might not overwrite files (or scripts) that are used by other mods. If you want a point and click solution there is a list, HTML-ized, of the 8,000+ mods supported by BOSS. These (usually) get automatically sorted for you and are all cross-compatible. Wrye bash will tell you your errors with master lists/ mod dependencies, reading that manual is a good idea, even if in small steps. They just released an updated version of it a week or so ago. It is considered a must have tool by all. If none of that helps, I'll regurgitate some knowledge recently supplied to me by bben46: "DO NOT just delete the Bethesda folder, or any of the Oblivion folders. That leaves behind entries in the Windows registry that will prevent you from reinstalling and can cause other problems. My uninstall/reinstall includes a safe way to clean the registry of all references, and leaves you with a back up of the game files so you should not have to reinstall again. This procedure has been used by hundreds of people with very few problems. Here is a link to my complete uninstall/reinstall procedure located in the articles section of the Nexushttp://www.tesnexus.com/articles/article.php?id=240 If you have already deleted the folders. Try this: Create a new empty folder in the same place as the one you deleted. If you just deleted the Oblivion folder, create it in the Bethesda folder. if you deleted the bethesda folder, create 2 folders, a new bethesda folder, then inside of that, a new Oblivion folder. You don't need to put anything inside. Then run the procedure. - The uninstall on the CD needs to find the oblivion folder in the same place it was originally installed to actually remove the problem registry entries. Then the ccleaner program I recommend will remove the rest of the Oblivion registry entries. Be sure to reboot both before and after running the ccleaner." The aforementioned quote was for a problem that I had regarding a tes4edit problem. I don't know what happened or why, but I had a strange glitch and only after running the ccleaner program was I able to play again. Just using the add/remove programs doesn't completely wipe oblivion from your computer. If you get the registry cleaner (run the registry cleaner part of ccleaner, not the default screen), it will remove all traces of oblivion AFTER the add/remove programs. It would be a good idea to restart your computer between each step as well. If that works, hunt down and give kudos to bben46 If you still have problems after all that, I suggest an ice pick. I almost used a hammer when I had my problem lol. theuseless
bben46
How to post a Load order list article http://www.tesnexus.com/articles/article.php?id=295 Be sure you have the latest patch. This is the most common solution for crash on starting. If any mod in your list requires OBSE, you MUST start the game with OBSE and not the oblivion launcher. This is the second most common solution.
