Deleted5094879User Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 I have three questions, not so much tech related but here they are.1.Combining Scripts. Is there a way (CK or something) to combine a bunch of esps together; ie: Frostfall, iNeed, ELFX, SkyRe.I was told the more esp's you have the less stable Skyrim will be, so if I combine mods into the same esp for things like "Realistic Immersion" or something would that help? If so how? 2. Scripts. It is common knowledge that to many scripts is a bad thing, using a save cleaner helps but is there any other techniques to help people with a lot of scripts? 3. Determining what causes CTD(for troubleshooting).I do in fact get quite a few random CTD's and I'd like to know some techniques on how to figure out what did it; it can range from on-death to hitting a bandit or even running in the open. Now I am not asking to solve it for me(that's the other sub thread for) but what techniques can I use to do this on my own. In any situation, not the "I just installed mod X and problem Y happened" types of problems.
Lord Garon Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 (edited) 1. TES5EDIT can merge some plugins with the TES5EDIT Merge Plugins scripts. But it's not simply the number of esp's that affect stability. It's the total amount and kinds of changes made by mods which may cause problems; that stays the same whether you merge the plugins or not. 2. That's a mis-perception; save cleaners take out scripts that are stored in your savegame but are no longer needed because the mod that requires them was uninstalled. Essentially, all scripts provided by a mod are required for that mod to function when its activated. Simply not installing script heavy mods is the only way to limit the number of scripts in Skyrim. 3. There are volumes of info on this subject, from my sig, to Nexus mods, to Youtube videos. Google is your friend. Well, in this particular case, maybe not a friend, but a helper. If you're unsure about a stability "upgrade", just ask here about it. EDIT: I guess that could sound confusing. A mod is composed of zero or more plugins (files with .esp or .esm extensions) and zero or more data files (a bsa file, a mesh, a texture, a script, etc). Its common to refer to mods as plugins or esp's, as I did haphazardly above. A Skyrim script, more properly a Papyrus script, is a program file contained within a mod that is executed by the Skyrim script engine (called Papyrus). Generic "scripts", like the merge scripts for TES5EDIT I mentioned, are files used to modify or enhance the operation of another program. Both are commonly called "scripts" around here; the type of script is usually evident in context. I would re-write the post, but others may find this explanation useful. Or not, but I'll chance it. Deleted5094879User Posted May 22, 2014 Author Posted May 22, 2014 After doing MOST of what your siggy had to offer I did the Vurt test and made it about 3minutes. Froze close to riften and got a runtime error.
JobVanDam Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 (edited) Another thing I find helps is texture size. Don't get everything 4096x4096. Make sacrifices once in a while. If there's a retexture of something small or something you don't see often get the 512 version or maybe the 1024 version. Look at Cabal, that guy is the king of 1024 and no one can touch him in texturing. Edited May 22, 2014 by JobVanDam
Deleted5094879User Posted May 22, 2014 Author Posted May 22, 2014 As of right now all I have is cabal's work for textures. Default ultra settings and HD dlc pack. Any recommendations?

Novem99 Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 (edited) I would put SkyRe and Overhauls after fixes. And in aims of a more stable Skyrim you should strip down this huge plugin list to the essentials. No wonder you get CTDs. Edited May 23, 2014 by Novem99

That's a pretty decent time with your load order. That test "kinda" shows relative stability; 10 minutes in Vurt's test sorta corresponds to a much longer play period in regular Skyrim. Although, its possible to stumble upon a bug in seconds. You're doing a very reasonable load tweak by actually testing after changes. Good luck to you.
